Why can't I change my name back??

Just that really?
I name changed a little while ago to post about something quite sensitive/personal that could've been outing, yesterday and today I have tried to go back to my usual name but it's telling me my username is unavailable.

I've tried logging out and back in again but no luck, has anyone else had this issue and how did you solve it?

I've changed names again to something completely different but I'd like my old name back 😅

Did you have one email address for using mn at work maybe, and one for using it at home? clutching at straws here.
I name change a lot and I've never tried to go back to an old name, but I wonder if you lose it after a year of not using it??

But the old posts would still be there so I hope the user name wouldnt be available to somebody else.

I would assume someone else chose the user name while you weren’t using it. I could be wrong, but I don’t believe they are kept for you after you name change. So I think you might have lost it.

Same thing happened to me exactly in the last few days. I don't imagine someone else can take on a username in the interim so maybe it's a blip.

Thanks for the reply, no I only have the one account/password and have been logged into the app for ages (until I logged out and back in again for this).
I have name changed before to post about personal things and always been able to go back to my usual username..it's really strange!

Report your post to MNHQ and ask them to look into it. Sounds like a glitch to me.

I'm glad it's not just me! I had assumed that other people couldn't use it once I'd registered it, but maybe I'm wrong!

No, they are not available for others after someone's changed. They stay unavailable for other users.

MN did once have a name 'auction' I seem to remember. Names taken but never used.

I'm having the same problem. Gutted as it's a name I've used for years .

You can! Just done it.
click on your username, delete it and type in your old one.
I have two and would be gutted if I lost them both.

Not working for either. Can't change back to any previous usernames.

When I use my other user name, it leaves a space at the end. I delete the space and it pops back to normal, saying ‘This username already belongs to you’.

Ah so I've just tried it on the website via my phone and I'm able to change it that way, tried again on the app and it says 'unavailable' so maybe just an issue with the app?

hope it gets sorted for you all. There are some posters I look out for because they give excellent advice on certain topics. Would be disappointed if I could no longer see them under their username.
Here’s my partial deleted username and it says underneath that you can use the previous names. Fingers crossed for you

I would post in the update glitches thread. You get to keep all your own usernames - they don't get reassigned.

It might be that someone else has chosen your username while you had name changed. This happened to me. I'm still on my new username, but sometimes I get emails telling me I've been mentioned in a thread, and when I look it up, it's my previous username that's been mentioned and someone else posting with it. Very confusing!

Yes, this has happened to me too, which is why I am surprised by people saying that user names don’t get reused.
