Who's turned off their heating?

MayBeee · 22/04/2022 09:31

So the past two days have been sunny so we have turned off the central heating.
Today woke up to not so nice weather and it's currently 15 degrees indoors but due to costs are trying to go hard core ! Anyone else switched off yet ?

It's the same here but it's been warm all day and the house has heated up with the sun.

LaurieFairyCake · 27/04/2022 17:32

Yeah. No sun in London today - very grey

Spectre8 · 27/04/2022 18:25

Been off since end of Jan.

DontPickTheFlowers · 27/04/2022 18:31

Mine had been off for weeks but i actually put it back on again on Monday - it was icy cold in our house. It only comes on once it goes below a certain temp anyway.

SunshiningBoo · 27/04/2022 18:31

We switched ours off in March.

Tumbleweed101 · 27/04/2022 18:34

Mine will come on if it's under 15C but otherwise it is off now. It came on yesterday for a little while so guessing it dropped below 15C in the house! Haven't turned it on on purpose for a few weeks now.

BooksAndHooks · 27/04/2022 18:38

Ours has been off for a long time and even then it was only set to 16 degrees and on as little as possible. No way would we ever have heating on this time of year anyway.

Echobelly · 27/04/2022 18:41

Turned it off about 2 weeks back, but the mornings and evenings have been so chilly this week I've turned it back on, though it's only timed for evening and early morning at the moment. Hopefully can turn off again next week - it's just once the house gets chilly it stays that way unless the weather improves or you turn the heating back on. Our bill has gone up loads but we're in the very fortunate position of being able to absorb the cost - plus it's averaged out across the year so we pay an amount that's set for a reasonable period.

Decafflatteplease · 27/04/2022 18:47

Been off for weeks now, although we still have the hot water on twice a day (all year round) which does warm the house slightly it's a pain on the summer! The joys of a 200 year old creaky house!

Suzi888 · 27/04/2022 18:47

Switched off heating 1st April.
We have an uncomfortably warm /hot house in summer/on warm days.
We have electric blankets which we’ve used of chilly at night and I was putting the gas fire on for an hour or two at the start of April. The back of our home is basically pretty much glass and the rooms retain heat well.

My mum still has her heating on though.

sanityisamyth · 27/04/2022 18:48

I've barely put mine in (can't afford them) but I've had my windows open for weeks now

Libertaire · 27/04/2022 18:50

We turned ours off weeks ago, during the warm spell. We had to turn it back on today because it’s 10c here in Leicestershire, and it’s almost bloody May. Our village cricket team will get hypothermia this weekend if it doesn’t warm up.

OhThatChicken · 27/04/2022 18:52

Switched it off but turned it on for an hour this afternoon. We're all so cold and there's no way the kids are falling asleep without their room being a bit warmer at least to start with.

LadyDanburysCane · 27/04/2022 20:12

We never actually turn ours off. It is on a timer and thermostatically controlled. If the temperature drops below 18 degrees during the couple of hours at each end of the day it’s timed for 18 then it comes on. If it drops below 15 degrees in the middle if the day it comes on (DH works from home so there is nearly always someone at home). Basically the 18 degree setting is for when we are getting up and showering and then in the evening when DS is showering. It’s a mid terrace house and we don’t seem to get cold.

Nidan2Sandan · 27/04/2022 20:50

Mine is set to come on if it drops below 17, so hasnt come on for a few weeks. It did put itself on at lunch time though.

Apparently we have a cold front coming in from Russia next week so wont consider turning it any lower just yet.

Delatron · 27/04/2022 20:53

No it’s still too cold for me. It’s off a night but still comes in in morning and evening. Hate being cold. Do have a jumper and blanket on me!

WhatIsThisPlease · 27/04/2022 21:00

I had to switch mine on for a couple of hours tonight for the first time in weeks. House was 14 degrees and none of our towels were drying after our showers.

It's miserable being cold all the time and being obsessed with checking the bloody smart meter.

WindyGlowers · 27/04/2022 21:04

Ours is mostly off but dh is up at 5.30am for work and has put it on a couple of times this week.
We use oil heating so we're just trying to keep what we have for as long as possible.

LadyHelenaJustina · 27/04/2022 22:04

Ours is off. It's 17 degrees now, so warm enough as long as I keep moving around.

TabithaTittlemouse · 27/04/2022 22:09

We light our fire some evenings but usually just get our dressing gowns on, get blankets out or go to bed if we’re chilly.
None of us are in during the day anyway.

Angelik · 27/04/2022 22:19

I can't begin to imagine bill of pp who has it a constant 20! About 15 degrees in outer London today but bright. I've had back doors open all day. I love being warm but need cool air to breathe. Lots of layers/blankets etc.

emmathedilemma · 28/04/2022 07:29

i turned mine off again last night, got up this morning and it’s 14.1 degrees in the living room (with the sun on it!), I’m working from home today so that’s far too cold and it is back on!

MrsLargeEmbodied · 28/04/2022 07:35

yes
but tempting sometimes to put back on

MrsLargeEmbodied · 28/04/2022 07:36

never cast a clout until May is out

MrsLargeEmbodied · 28/04/2022 07:46

it was 10 degrees driving to work yesterday so i did have to turn it on in my car briefly
