Who's turned off their heating?

MayBeee · 22/04/2022 09:31

So the past two days have been sunny so we have turned off the central heating.
Today woke up to not so nice weather and it's currently 15 degrees indoors but due to costs are trying to go hard core ! Anyone else switched off yet ?

I’ve not had heating on since the end of January. It’s been quite warm imo and I don’t like too much heat I just wrap up a bit if it’s chilly. So only paying for gas for hot water which isn’t too bad but putting excess away for winter

Pootle40 · 22/04/2022 09:59

Switched ours off two days ago but in Scotland and mornings still very cool. I submitted meter readings yesterday and me energy bill for 01/04/22-21/04/22 is £210. We have GCH.

AnxiousSquirrel · 22/04/2022 09:59

Turned ours off completely about a week or two ago, weather has been lovely so not really needed it, if it gets cold again I'll turn it on for an hour or so. Most rooms are around 17°c

Firesidefox · 22/04/2022 10:02

Ours is off

Choopi · 22/04/2022 10:02

Dh wears hearing aids and turns his hearing off quite a lot, I'm jealous sometimes especially on long car journeys with the kids.

Our heating has been off for a while at this stage, it's not cold enough to justify the expense for us.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 22/04/2022 10:02

My grandfather would discreetly turn off his hearing the moment my mother's eyebrows would go up before a long rant at him about something. She never realised.

I was really cold last night but wouldn't turn the heating back on. I went to bed instead - complete with socks, which I never normally do. It's April. I know snow in April isn't unheard of (and it's nowhere near that level of cold), but I don't want to spend any more on gas than is absolutely necessary for hot water and cooking.

The health advice for people with medical conditions to keep their homes at a constant 21 Celsius always made we wonder if they appreciated quite how expensive that would be - I reckon that would eat up more than the PIP payments each month.

Wouldn't be surprised if there's unforeseen consequences of that where people stop leasing Motorbility vehicles because they're having to use the mobility component of PIP to pay gas and electric.

MrsMoastyToasty · 22/04/2022 10:03

It went off in March. Even with me being virtually immobile due to a broken ankle I haven't been able to afford to put it on. I've managed with blankets, hoodies and 2 cats.

SunflowerSmith · 22/04/2022 10:08

Ours hasn't been on for at least a month but only because it hasn't been that cold, it's only ever on for an hour or two a day on cold days to take the chill off the house.
We've got heated throws that we use on when we're sitting down in the evening and they keep us warmer than the heating.

CandyLeBonBon · 22/04/2022 10:10

Pardon?

Tittyfilarious81 · 22/04/2022 10:23

Mine has been off for about 3 weeks now

canihaveacoffeeplease · 22/04/2022 10:25

PARDON??

YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet · 22/04/2022 10:27

😀We'll edit your title now, @MayBeee.

Svara · 22/04/2022 10:31

Was on for three hours a day at 15. Turned it off when we had warm weather in March. Then put it on for an hour maybe three times since then.

AuntieMarys · 22/04/2022 10:32

We have! In the North, been off 10 days. We only had it on for 3 hours in the evening before.

TheDuchessOfMN · 22/04/2022 10:33

I was turning on the blanket on my bed and lighting the wood-burner in the living room until this week.
I felt cold last night but will have to get used to it.

I stopped putting on the heating about 2 weeks ago

RafaistheKingofClay · 22/04/2022 10:35

Turned it off in March at some point. Did turn it back on during that cold snap when the room temps got down to 13 degrees. And put it on for an hour or so earlier this week when the temp dropped right down in the evening.

mostly it’s staying around 16-17 so there isn’t much need for it.

Purplepalm192 · 22/04/2022 10:39

I don’t think ours has been on at all in April, it’s been fairly warm here so hasn’t been needed.

AppleKatie · 22/04/2022 10:40

Turned it off about 3 weeks ago. It hasn’t got below 17 in the house so it’s been manageable. I did turn it on when it was 17.4 and I had a friend coming round just for an hour or so to get it back up to 20 as I felt inhospitable.

Pyii · 22/04/2022 10:42

It's clicked on itself to bring it upto 16 a few times, still single digit temperatures up where I am, I'd like to have it on for longer not just clicking up to temperature, but oil is too expensive.

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 22/04/2022 10:43

Scotland here. Heating hasn't been on since the end of February because it's not been anywhere near cold enough to warrant it. I'm in a well-insulated new build, so I'm fortunate that it isn't draughty and retains heat well, but I don't think it's ever dropped below 13-14 degrees in here, and even if it does for an hour or two after dark an extra layer or a blanket is more than adequate.

JurasicPerks · 22/04/2022 10:47

It went off about a month ago, when we had that warm spell, then back on for the week of sleet and snow. Off again now.

pizzaand · 22/04/2022 10:52

Ours hadn't been on for about a month.the houses either side seem to like heating though and our house is currently 22 🥵

mizzo · 22/04/2022 11:02

Ours has been off for a while now, we rarely have it on during the day anyway. DD was home last week from university and kept trying to put it in because she likes to wear shorts and a bra while moaning it’s col🙄

LindaEllen · 22/04/2022 11:40

We tried last month but we gave in because it went bloody chilly again.

Hoping this is us for the summer now, we haven't had it on for a few days now.

It's a bit chilly in the evenings but nothing an extra layer can't solve. With the prices the way they are, we REALLY need to cut down on what we're using.. and DSS is home from uni at the moment as well with his half hour showers and thousands of devices all charging simultaneously.

DelphiniumBlue · 22/04/2022 12:20

It's been off for weeks. But we live in London so not very cold here, and we have had a fire one or two evenings when it's been really chilly. DS working from home has bought himself a nice thick dressing gown for off-screen times and we have blankets in the living room. But we have always kept fairly low temperatures in the house, heating would only ever be 18/19 max.
