Anyone else had this cold/virus? Sore throat, cough, negative LFTs.

Day 16.

Coughing all night and I feel quite breathlesst times. Throat is very sore. I've taken an lft every other day and have never tested positive for COVID Anyone else had this?

DH and I both had it, I'm on day 16. DS started yesterday.

I need to be really careful about taking OTC medication because of prescription medication I take.

This may sound ridiculous, if so, sorry, but have you tried taking an antihistamine, we have all been suffering for a couple of weeks now, sore throat, dry cough, drippy nose. If your symptoms clear up, you have your answer.

Batceanera · 21/04/2022 16:59

Thanks @BigWoollyJumpers

DS has horrible hayfever, not a terrible suggestion at all. When he was much smaller, it was debilitating. Same symptoms as you suggest with streaming eyes, blocked nose and totally unable to sleep.

I can't take antihistamines, the rest of the family can. They aren't making a difference at all.

The terrible, hacking cough makes it feel like this is a virus rather than hayfever. Also DH has started feeling better today. Feel like I cracked a rib, I really need to sleep.

Yes. I have it. Feel really ill. I'm horrified that you still have it after 16 days. I'm a week in and was hoping I'd be getting over it soon. I can't sleep for coughing. Doctor says it's a virus (not Covid) and lots of people have it.

orangeisthenewpuce · 21/04/2022 17:05

I also tried antihistamines but they made no difference.

AnneShirleysNewDress · 21/04/2022 17:07

I'm day 12 and feel rotten. Sore throat, headache, cough, muscle aches and so tired.

ginslinger · 21/04/2022 17:11

Yes DH has something similar with a cough that is awful. He is about 2 weeks into it.

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 21/04/2022 17:23

Ds2 has something like this. He's adamant it's an infection, but LFT is negative. He does look pale, tired and a bit unwell.

Puppylucky · 21/04/2022 17:37

Yup me - I was told its adenovirus. I've been ill for a week now and whilst I'm not quite as sick as I was I still feel rough - it's hit me worse than Covid did.

mynameiscalypso · 21/04/2022 17:39

Yes, we all had it and a couple of colleagues had it too. Multiple LFTs on all of us were negative (and me, DH and DS only had Covid a month ago and it was very different to this). It's awful isn't it? I've never had a cold that's gone on for so long and I still feel pretty after two weeks.

Gymnopedie · 21/04/2022 17:51

I had similar, was convinced a test would be positive but wasn't. But it only lasted a couple of days, I'm hardly ever ill for long. Either I've got a cracking immune system or the zinc and vitamin C lozenges did it.

TickyTok · 21/04/2022 17:52

Adenovirus or parainfluenza? There's a ton of croup cough going around nursery children now. DD caught it, passed it to our entire family and knocked us all out for Easter.

Definitely not covid as we've all tested regularly (5 people with identical symptoms). DH had omicron a few months ago and says this is far worse.

SaggyBlinders · 21/04/2022 17:54

Yep I had a cold like that in January. I have covid now, and feel fine felt, felt 20 times worse with cold in January. The cough lasted about 4 weeks after I felt better, apparently 'post viral' coughs are rife atm. Lots of cold viruses and the flu making a comeback.

MissMarplesNiece · 21/04/2022 18:05

I've got something similar. I was sure I'd got covid but did a LFT and it was negative.

I'm day 12 and feel rotten. Sore throat, headache, cough, muscle aches and so tired.

Yes to all of this.

Adenoviruses can cause a wide range of illnesses such as:

Common cold or flu-like symptoms
fever
sore throat
acute bronchitis (inflammation of the airways of the lungs, sometimes called a “chest cold”)
pneumonia (infection of the lungs)
pink eye (conjunctivitis)
acute gastroenteritis (inflammation of the stomach or intestines causing diarrhea, vomiting, nausea and stomach pain)

I've had stomach issues on and off, DS has the look of conjunctivitis, which might be a double whammy with hayfever. We all have a horrible barking cough.

I've had a nap and feel a bit more human. I am still bone tired.

Thanks all.

Yes I have, so did one of my workmates and also a friend outside the office. All at the same time. Started with a bad sore throat that which tipped into a heavy cold and cough. Felt decidedly rotten for about a week but am picking up now.

we all tested negative on repeated LFTs.

User280905 · 21/04/2022 18:53

Ds10 has it right now. Horrible sounding cough. He had covid a few months back and didn't sound like this.

I might give him an anti-histamine actually just in case. I've been a bit sneezy recently and that is hay fever.

Batceanera · 24/04/2022 12:25

Day 19?

I swear this is another cold, straight off the back of the other one. Or I have entered a headache and snotty nose phase. I felt rough again yesterday and bit better today. Sore throat has gone, cough still lingering.

Feel like I've busted a rib coughing.

SatinHeart · 24/04/2022 12:28

I've had a sore throat and cough for over 2 weeks now - did an LFT near the beginning which was negative, haven't bothered since as i had covid fairly recently. Now the cough and sore throat are only at night which I guess is an improvment? Will try antihistamine.

Dynamicsloth · 24/04/2022 12:32

Yes I have it. Started with a few days of absolute fatigue then a dry cough, then morphing into a rasping cough and runny nose. I’m about 14 days in and feel like I’m never going to get better. I start wheezing if I climb a couple of flights of stairs. Woke up with a temp and agonisingly sore throat this morning. I have already had a week of work will try and WFH tomorrow.

Dynamicsloth · 24/04/2022 12:32

*week off work!

zafferana · 24/04/2022 12:57

I've had/got something similar. DS brought a cold home from school at the end of term, he was very snotty for a week, been coughing now for three weeks, DH got it a few days after, same thing, still coughing and full of phlegm, then I got it, very sore throat, lost my voice, coughing like I smoke 40 a day (I don't smoke), still coughing a bit and full of phlegm two weeks later. It's not Covid - we had that at the end of Jan and it was totally different.

BearSoFair · 24/04/2022 13:44

I've had something similar for the last couple of weeks, thought it was clearing up earlier in the week but the sudden coughs and sore throat is back with a vengeance yesterday and today! Have re-tested just to be sure, still negative.

Peregrina · 24/04/2022 14:52

Yes, we have had this too, although not the sore throats but coughs and feeling wiped out, but LFTs were negative. Took about a fortnight for us to shake whatever it was off.

0htooooodles · 28/04/2022 22:55

We caught croup of my son and really can't shift the cough and breathlessness. It's been over two weeks for me and no end in sight 😭
