Did you change careers in your 40s?

I’m a software developer but now a sahm as my DH provides enough for us and I just don’t seem to have the passion or concentration for SD any more. I’m 42.

I’m looking for advice on careers to change to later in life that isn’t just full of young people, and that I can do part time as I have small children.

Yes, line manager behaved so unprofessionally, which impacted on students I handed my notice in. Did supply work while I set up my own business, which was very successful.

I'm mid 40's and made the jump from compliance/training into Sales in a completely different and unrelated company.

I have never sold a thing in my life - and I never thought I'd be doing it. Turns out I know how to listen to people and form relationships and I don't have to rely on being pushy or persistent unlike the rest of the team (all males, workplace is a very male driven industry) The environment can be a little chauvinistic, at first I was seen as the 'pet female' but I've proven myself and my approach is a breath of fresh air and I've gained a lot of respect.

The job, although full time, is very flexible - I have a primary aged child and this enables me to work around school drop off/pick up, and be available for any appointments etc. Ideal during the holidays too because I am field based so worked from home while she was off.

There's options for promotion, and to specialise within the field once I've gained more experience, but I'm thinking of using this to hone my selling technique and then go sell something that I have a passion for, like holidays 🙂
