How cold will the water be in late May on the Algarve?

Holidaying in the last week of May on the Algarve. The pools in the resort aren't heated. Want to spend some time in them plus the sea. I'm quite good with cold sea water, I regularly have a paddle in UK and Irish waters on summer holidays, but the rest of my party not so much.

Is it worth picking up some cheapo wetsuits before we go, just in case? Google is telling me the sea temperature in late May will be about 19 degrees. I've never been to this area before so would be really helpful to hear people's experiences.

It’s the Atlantic so really cold! We usually go in August and the sea is still very cold then

Cheers, wetsuits it is then

Chilly, rather than really cold. And warmer than Cornwall. If you are somewhere that is sheltered by a sandbar, slightly warmer.

Lighthearted response. But true. I've been in topless in May. Wet suit wimps! 😇

I confess I hadn't considered topless as an option...
