Anyone met Boris Johnson?

What was he like? Was he charismatic/very charming? I feel like very few people would still be ploughing on in his situation and that there must be a certain quality he possesses (other than the fact he had no shame).

@BlubFestival

The charm so many are describing sounds like the beginning of every abusive relationship. Half the country has been live bombed while the other half looks on in horror...

Yes several times for work when he was mayor. He played his bumbling act and came across as ill prepared and unprofessional in a room full of business leaders.

GB was serious and miserable when I met him. Tony Blair was overwhelmingly too bright and breezy. Bill Clinton was hypnotic.

I had a job for years involving Club de Madrid with ex leaders.

Bill Clinton was hypnotic?! Tell us more...

@kaleidoscope123 did you work on the garden bridge? An ex did consultancy on that, Johnson told them to "make it work" - implying to bribe people.
Does 'make it work' imply that? Not sure that's fair. It's been said to me on a number of occasions and usually it just means 'stop bothering me with your problems, find the solutions and just make it fucking work'.

There was context, yes it did.

Bit late to this one but yes, I twice met him in a work context.

Professionally he was really knowledgeable, I hadn't expected that since we were working on quite an obscure area of public policy, but he asked quite intelligent questions, I wasn't expecting that.

Personally, he did that quite intense staring 'you are the only person in the world who matters to me right now' thing, I found that a bit uncomfortable but I can see how others might like it.

So on balance smarter than I imagined he would be but personally a bit of an actor, very aware of how he was coming across I think.

Carrie was with him when he met us the second time, we had no idea why she was there, she clearly wasn't staff. We wondered about that in the staffroom for a while after and then it all became clear. Not much of a date though, coming to spend the day with your lover in our office in the middle of nowhere. She must have been really keen.

He was very public school-ish, and since I'm the opposite I found myself reverting to my worst local accent. But that's my issue, not his, I have an unconscious tendency to do that when I'm around 'posh' people, they bring out the extreme working class in me.

It's been interesting to read other peoples' take on him.

Another meeter of GB and I would go as far as to say he was very sexy in real life.

Haven’t met Johnson but my sister has and she said he had charisma for sure, although was (to use her exact word) “oily”.

Yes. GB was really sexy. Magnificent hair which he ran his fingers through with great in-Boris like) effect. I met him at a miners’ rally in the early 90s and he spoke absolutely brilliantly too.
