Why does Johnny Depp speak so slowly in his evidence?

His speech is exceptionally slow in many places? What's this about?

He’s always like that. Watch some clips of him on Graham Norton. Speaks slowly and quietly.

TibetanTerrah · 20/04/2022 08:33

I only briefly watched a clip last night but my impression was that he was choosing his words very, very carefully. He's obviously furious at his reputation being trashed and he has likely been coached to push his anger well below the surface.

PaperTyger · 20/04/2022 08:58

I was wondering if he's on tranquilliser?
To help him he must feel pretty nervous.

Btw is Amber Heard worth 50 million? What happend if he wins and can't get the money 💰💲

FrippEnos · 20/04/2022 08:59

If you watch any interviews that he has done, he has always spoken like that.

PaperTyger · 20/04/2022 09:00

Choosing words carefully but also going off piste
..like When he got lost in thegauntlet...aka the red carpet.... talking about it;
He didn't directly reply to how his relationship with Amber was affected by his parents etc

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 20/04/2022 09:03

He's always been very soft spoken in interviews and outside of acting roles.

ssd · 20/04/2022 09:07

Be hard work going for coffee with him eh?

itsgettingweird · 20/04/2022 10:56

I also saw a clip, come up when watching sky news.

I found the way he spoke quite slow but almost he was deliberately putting on a persona of someone who is lost and depressed and - well I don't know. But it didn't seem natural. 🤷‍♀️

AmyDudley · 20/04/2022 12:13

I would guess a combination of trying to pick his words very carefully, trying to give an impression of being very reasonable/not quick to react (it may be that is how he actually is - I don't know).
But also the guy has by his own admission been taking drugs for many many years, eventually they start affecting your brain in irreversible ways, speaking more slowly and hesitantly, and generally looking a bit out of it is common in long time drug users, even once they are clean.

Cleopatra2022 · 20/04/2022 12:23

I watched a part of his evidence and he was just rambling on and on. It took him about 10 minutes to answer the actual question.

Horological · 20/04/2022 12:33

It seems to be his normal speech pattern if you look at previous interviews. It has crossed my mind to wonder if he has high functioning autism. DS speaks like this and he has had a diagnosis. OTOH I guess years of addiction don't help.

I don't understand why the judge or other lawyers don't ask him to answer the questions directly though. He goes on and on, often without making a particular point or answering the question properly. I am fairly sure an ordinary person would be hurried along or forced to be more precise if only to not waste the time of the court. It's almost like he has paid to hold the stage. Meanwhile, for every 5 minutes he speaks there is room for more adverts. That, and the fact that all of his witnesses are either family members or employees. It makes me feel uncomfortable.

I am not on any 'team' at all. It's just that so far it seems to be quite a circus rather than a serious and incisive attempt to get to the truth.

PaperTyger · 20/04/2022 12:45

Also written interviews i be seen.
Obviously he seems Able to call on big words, he's we'll spoken but I can imagine amber has already heard all of this 10000000 times before and at the Same slow pace

PaperTyger · 20/04/2022 12:47

Their marriage councillor has spoken And another professional

Cleopatra2022 · 20/04/2022 13:00

He admitted that his opiate abuse started before he met her. With what we have been told about the states he got into I hate to think what his children witnessed over the years.

Come again? Confused

MacaroniBaloney · 04/06/2022 21:16

I heard it's a habit he's picked up to emulate Marlon Brando. A hero of his, who had a similar, slow drawl.
