I live in a village, it depends what I'm shopping for, I would mostly choose closest option due to ever increasing fuel costs.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 20/04/2022 06:52

Mostly nearest supermarket I can walk to and get the bus back. Or drive to in a very few minutes. That’s Asda.
Now and then I go a bit further for M&S/Waitrose, for anything I can’t get at Asda..eg. high welfare U.K. origin meat, or anything else a bit special, e.g.ready made canapés for guests, U.K. grown luscious fat black cherries during the short season (M&S).

Ostryga · 20/04/2022 06:58

I usually shop at Waitrose. Their delivery is the best and I can’t get some of their products anywhere else.

I also use my local Turkish supermarket for fresh veggies, exotic fruits, yogurt, pickles, spices, breads and lamb.

Singleandproud · 20/04/2022 07:00

I have a family member that works for the supermarket so get 10% friends and family discount which makes a huge difference to my food bill. Its also a fairly small supermarket so it's quick to get around, I find I take forever mooching around the larger supermarkets with large home and clothes ranges.

Svara · 20/04/2022 07:00

I shop at Lidl, switched from Aldi. I like that not all the fresh produce is packaged at Lidl. I like the Lidl app that keeps my receipts and tracks my monthly spend. Other supermarkets are too expensive, they may price match but the match is typically lower quality than Aldi/Lidl and all the non matched food quickly adds up.

TravellingSpoon · 20/04/2022 07:05

To collect nectar points, plus its my closest and I like the food and the range.

AchillesPoirot · 20/04/2022 07:06

They’re the only ones that deliver where I live.

FlyingFlamingo · 20/04/2022 07:14

Tesco - the delivery service is reliable, and I could always get slots during lockdown - Ocado were useless (and more expensive) and Sainsburys have let me down before. Plus the Clubcard points soon add up and can be used widely, the prices are competitive and the choice is good (more choice than Aldi or Lidl. That said, I do like a wander around Lidl every now and again and I love their bakery but home delivery is too convenient to give up!)

WhiteFire · 20/04/2022 07:14

When I was growing up it was the one within walking distance. Then when I first started to get home delivery they were the first to offer 1hr slots rather than 2. (Talking a long time ago) Now just habit I guess. It is also the one I pass the easiest on my way home from work if I want a top up shop.

crackingreward · 20/04/2022 07:16

It just depends on how I feel on the day really. I don’t have a specific supermarket although I probably lean more towards Tesco because it has a cafe.

EmpressaurusWitchDoesntBurn · 20/04/2022 07:44

Usually my nearest big supermarket because it’s 10 minutes’ walk. Local greengrocer for fresh veg though.

hiredandsqueak · 20/04/2022 07:47

Morrisons, they offer the best delivery service around here and their fruit and veg lasts well and their bakery bread is the nicest. Hardly ever go in a store to shop though.

reluctantbrit · 20/04/2022 07:47

Waitrose for 90% of groceries. It is actually the nearest decent size supermarket, the fruit/veg quality is better than the small Sainsbury or the large Tesco a longer drive away.

I do get some stuff from Lidls, some meat from our butcher, M&S for emergencies when I am at work.

I drive past a large Tesco on the way to DD's riding stable but normally only get bulky items or emergency lunch/dinner as I find their fresh stuff not that great.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 20/04/2022 07:52

Location. Two supermarkets similar distance, I use the one with competent staff. Sometimes DH braves the incompetent one for specific products.

The last straw for incompetent supermarket was when it took me 40mins to get through the tills on a normal weekday afternoon nearly making me late for school pick up.

KatherineJaneway · 20/04/2022 07:53

I do about two online shops a month from Waitrose, occasional large online shop from

miamiaow · 20/04/2022 08:01

Aldi. It’s cheap and two mins down the road. We can’t afford anywhere else.

I am limited there though as I’m coeliac and they don’t do pasta/bread/cereal or nice bits that other places do. So that is crap for me (Plus gluten free food is usually twice the price for half the amount of food so. I can’t afford it anyway).

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 20/04/2022 08:02

Because it's the only supermarket within a 40 minute drive of my house.

Ops1 · 20/04/2022 08:06

I started using Tesco a few months ago after being a life long Morrison’s fan
the app is easy to use
the click and collect is always brilliant and the items they pick for me have never been below par
I like collecting Clubcard points
I feel like I’ve not reduced my standard of weekly shop and it’s a price I’m happy with so so far so good!

JustJam4Tea · 20/04/2022 08:08

Just the 2 of us so rarely do a big shop anymore. Usually small coop as on way home and their meat/fish is good. Greengrocer with good range of thai, Indian etc foods next door. Fresh local bread too.

pop to M&S from work at lunchtime for anything else…fish and veg is good there.

so convenience and welfare products.

SophieSoSo · 20/04/2022 08:10

I use Tesco, it’s closest to me and the Clubcard prices make a difference.

I use Aldi occasionally but I’ve noticed big price rises there, I used to be able to fill a trolley for around £50, it was closer to £90 when I last went.

MintJulia · 20/04/2022 08:14

Large Tesco because the range of fruit & veg is huge, and the turnover is fast so seldom sat on a shelf for more than a few hours. I could go to Sainsbury for the same product, but a mile further and a smaller carpark. I've tried most of the others but their greengrocery seems to go past its best sooner.

I buy meat from the village butcher because it's much better quality.

Strugglingtodomybest · 20/04/2022 08:16

I shop at Asda because it is the closest. It is also the biggest one around and one of the cheapest.

chosenone · 20/04/2022 08:20

Ocado delivery down to once a month. Shop in the offers and get some of the decent M&S stuff too. I go to the decent Aldi on the way home from work once a week and occasionally Morrisons for their fresh pizzas/bakery.

We go to the excellent butchers once a month. Way too pricey to go more than that sadly.

RampantIvy · 20/04/2022 08:21

I usually shop at Tesco because it it the most convenient. I also shop at Morrisions because it is convenient for when I am in town. I occasionally shop at Sainsburys because it is a huge shop and has more choice of the more intersting foods, and I rate their clothing.

Asda, Lidl and Aldi are out of the way, and Waitrose is a 29 mile round trip, a lot of it heavy town driving.

AccommodatingAlice · 20/04/2022 08:23

They gave us a priority home delivery slot for CEV
