They have the best delivery service, I like their app / website the best and quality is decent.

JustATomCat · 20/04/2022 08:26

I work at the local asda, 5 minutes walk from home. Get 10% off. Plus at certain times of the year 20%. This includes George, so is perfect.

I'd shop at Sainsburys otherwise. The quality is much better.

I get a weekly online shop from Tesco, I find it is the best for online and also I use the Clubcard points. I also get small top up shops from Waitrose and M&S as they are local to me and they sell some nice things. The only other supermarkets locally are Asda and Lidl which I don't use as I get my main shop from Tesco online

UnaOfStormhold · 20/04/2022 08:32

We use Oddbox for fruit and veg, fortnightly Waitrose deliveries for basic stock , Milk and more for milk and Aldi or Sainsburys if we need an occasional top up. Oh, and we get bulk flour deliveries from Shipton Mill for breadmaking.

Oddbox is great quality and I like the idea of reducing food waste - it's better than most box deliveries because it's not limited to local produce which can get monotonous in the winter and duplicates what we can grow in the summer (more courgettes are definitely unwelcome some months!).

Getting milk delivered to the door is very handy and I do like being able to return the bottles. The refillable washing up liquid is good.

We get a 5% discount through work on John Lewis/Waitrose, and I feel happy about some of the ethical choices they make particularly for their own brand products; it's easy to get delivery slots and substitutions are rare and mostly sensible. I get lots of their essential range which seems good value for money.

Babdoc · 20/04/2022 08:33

My nearest supermarket is Tesco, ten miles away. It is v poor - unripe fruit, wilted veg, tough meat.
So I have deliveries from Sainsbugs, fifteen miles away, and they are excellent. Always on time, rarely substitute anything, succulent tender meat, perfectly ripe fruit, fresh crisp veg and salads.

NearlyHeadlessNick · 20/04/2022 08:35

Switched to Tesco from Aldi for better allergen labelling. Added bonuses are better shelf life on fruit and veg (presumably higher turnover) and using Tesco points towards holidays and days out.

Punkypinky · 20/04/2022 08:35

Tesco delivery here if they sub something that costs more than what you order they don't charge the extra - unlike Sainsbury's.

DinosApple · 20/04/2022 08:38

Tesco. Initially because it was nearest.

Now, I pay a deliveries subscription so it's convenient too. Especially with the cost of fuel and the fact there have been fuel shortages locally recently too.

The app is easy to use and substitutions are always ok. Clubcard points help. Any damaged items and the driver can refund that cost, plus customer services have been good too.

It has got more expensive recently, very noticeably, but I think all supermarkets have.

FourTeaFallOut · 20/04/2022 08:38

I shop at Tesco and we do that because it's closest, I can charge my car while I shop, it's hardly ever out of stock and they don't dick around with the layout so I know where everything is and can do a small shop quickly.

FlippyFloppyFlappy · 20/04/2022 08:44

Tesco because of location.

DebtheSander · 20/04/2022 08:54

Lidl because it is cheaper. I like the app…it gives me a £10 voucher if I spend over £200 in a calendar month. Which I do.

The odd Sainsburys shop for bits I can’t get in Lidl.

trilbydoll · 20/04/2022 09:00

Asda, it's the cheapest that will deliver and we switched during lockdown because they were the only ones who offered click and collect slots, none of the other local supermarkets were able to scale up to meet demand as quickly.

And the Asda extra special range is always really good.

BlancmanegeBunny · 20/04/2022 09:49

I have Tesco, Aldi, Morrisons and Aldi within a 2 mile distance from home. (Sainsbury and Asda both 6 miles away).

I do the majority of my shopping in Aldi and Lidl, I mostly buy basic ingredients and make my own meals. I go to Morrisons and Tesco for anything I can't get in Aldi or Lidl.
My local Aldi and Lidl are both very busy and have a quick turnover of fruit and veg, I know some people complain about the fruit and veg but I have never had any issues.

Phos · 20/04/2022 09:50

Asda if I want some quick bits as it’s closer. Sainsbury’s if I want click and collect or a bit more variety as it’s bigger than the
asda.
Ocado if I get my finger out and book a delivery in time.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 20/04/2022 09:56

Nearest big supermarket is Waitrose, and family are vegan foodies - offers a good range and is closest. Also have a Tesco in the village for basics.

Goatinthegarden · 20/04/2022 10:03

Sainsbury’s or M&S and my local ‘neighbourhood’ shop now stocks Waitrose so I’m using it a bit more regularly for ‘bits’. I pass quite a few ethnic supermarkets on my way home from work so I use them quite often too for things I can’t find in Sainsbury’s.

I know they’re expensive and I keep on deciding I’ll try Aldi or Asda but it’s just not for me. DH and I don’t have children and the more budget supermarkets seem to cater more for feeding larger families - lots more multipacks and large sizes of things.

We also eat a lot of vegetarian meals and I’ve found that Sainsbury’s has the best range of tofu, tempeh and meat substitutes. My local also has more interesting herbs, spices and vegetables than Aldi or Asda.

ifonly4 · 20/04/2022 10:31

Distance - we have two supermarkets within walking distance. One happens to be Tescos which I prefer over Sainsburys (3 miles away) as it's cleaner, brighter, staff more available. The other is Lidl which I equally use - it wouldn't be worth the petrol and my time driving to Aldi (4/5 miles away).

namechangeanonymous · 20/04/2022 10:39

I have morrisons tesco asda lidl aldi within a few minutes drive, I tend to head for morrisons as its a small shop so quicker and I like the fresh stuff if DH goes he tends to head to asda as he prefers it.
We really need to give lidl aldi a go.

Madickenxx · 20/04/2022 10:43

Convenience...I only cook for 3 on a Sunday, all other days it's for 1 or 2 so tend to go to M&S as they have "ready to cook" meals that I like. Sainsbury's or Aldi for basics and non-food stuff like washing powder. I have a Tesco's petrol station round the corner with a Tesco Express shop so sometimes pop in there for milk/bread etc. I'm in London so have most supermarkets within a 5 minute drive so can pick and mix depending on what I fancy and my budget.

Norgie · 20/04/2022 10:47

Usually Tesco due to the club card.
I don't eat fresh fruit and veg so I don't know what it's like from there. I use frozen if I want some.
I have meat delivered from a butcher in Scotland, because, although more expensive, it's worth it for the taste and quality.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 20/04/2022 10:52

I mostly go by what's most convenient, so usually Dunnes. I won't shop for fresh food at Tesco because I don't trust their food handling, nothing seems to be as fresh as their use by dates claim it is. I used to do a small, indulgent shop a couple of times a month at M&S but since Brexit their shelves are pretty bare and the prices have really shot up.

LadyCordeliaFitzgerald · 20/04/2022 10:57

Aldi - because I have adhd and possibly some autistic traits and it’s regulated and not over stimulating.

There is no music, the lighting is good. The price is always displayed in the same place relative to the product. And it’s very rarely wrong.

The special offers are straightforward price drops, not 2 for 1 where I have to think if I want to buy that much, or do calculations in my head that disrupt my running total.

the quality is consistent. The labelling is straightforward so you can see country or origin at a glance.

the trolleys are in good condition and work.

And in my branch the staff are lovely, don’t start scanning before the last customer has cleared off, and are really helpful in general (I know that might be our branch in particular)

having said that they used to be much more neurodiverse friendly before they “improved” the look of the store and added an extra aisle that leaves you at the back wall instead of at the checkouts, extended the aisles into the queuing area, and started having cardboard stand alone shelves of unpriced branded products cluttering up the checkout area.

but it’s still a much easier shopping experience than any other supermarket even during their token autism friendly hours.

Shoxfordian · 20/04/2022 11:00

Started doing Ocado deliveries/Gousto boxes during lockdown and now it’s just convenient

I like the range of stuff on Ocado

LindaEllen · 20/04/2022 11:09

When I shop at Morrison's, I do so because it's literally within walking distance of my house. However, if I have a bit more time I'll drive over to Tesco (still only a 5 minute drive away) because it's a much nicer shop, plenty of space, and you can use the scan as you shop machines, which the child inside me really enjoys.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 20/04/2022 11:11

I have a delivery pass for Sainsbury's. I have found through trial and error that locally at least the delivery service there is the best - lots of slots available at short notice, few and sensible substitutions (they credit the difference if more expensive), deliveries always on time, food fresh enough to last the week, very helpful no quibble refunds if we miss a problem with something at the doorstep and have to contact them later. It is more expensive for some items, but I try to be mindful of which ones.

I do a mid week top at either Tesco or Aldi as they are on the way home from work. I prefer Aldi as it's cheaper, but sometimes I need the bigger range from Tesco, particular if I need non-food items; or I'll go to Tesco if I need fuel as well. I do try to stock up on the stuff that's ££ in Sainsburys like dishwater tablets or juice when I'm at Aldi.
