Best way to report safeguarding incident?

I’ve just witnessed a safeguarding issue near school.
I’ll report to school but would you report to social services as well? Or would you leave it with school?

I would report to the safeguarding lead at school if it involves a child from the school
And you know their name, I would ask for this to be acknowledged ASAP and if not go from there

School ASAP. They'll have all of the contacts and should be able to sort things now.

As above the School safeguarding team - they'll have all the relevant contacts and escalate to external agencies as necessary.

Thanks everyone. I tried to ring school when I saw it but there was no answer, as it was after school hours. I’ll ring them tomorrow, definitely.

Depending what it was you should ring police or social work today. If serious enough that something bad could happen tonight you need to call.

I would email the safeguarding lead at the school. The correct email address direct for them should be on the school website. Don’t send it to the main office. But it means you get all the correct details on written record

What did you see?
Is it something that needs dealing with this evening?

HikingforScenery · 15/05/2022 21:15

Just thought I’d update this. I rang school the next day and school knew about the child. I didn’t have a surname but had managed to get a few other identifying details. The safeguarding lead was very grateful I had a little more info to help identify the child.
Thank you all for your help.
