What's your 'bung it in the oven' no effort dinner?

I asked for dinner advice yday and got so may lovely suggestions, so I'm back for more lol. Something quick and easy bung it in the oven no effort- what's your go to? Mine is usually a chicken, carrots and potato all cooked together and then add stock at the end to turn into a gravy. That's too much effort today though!

Ooh. Another one. Stir fry chicken and garlic. When cooked add a tub of philly cheese and a little milk. Stir and warm through. Add chopped parsley. Serve with rice drizzled with garlic oil. A vampire free meal.....

@doris9034

I do this, but with smoked salmon, so even less cooking!

Genius!

Floydthebarber · 19/04/2022 14:51

Carbonara for me. Boil around 250-300g spaghetti, fry chopped bacon, sometimes grated courgette, a garlic clove cut in half to infuse flavour in. Strain spaghetti, add to bacon. Mix together 2 eggs, 50g parmesan type cheese, mix this through the spaghetti and bacon. Takes only slightly longer to prepare than the pasta takes to cook and very little prep. I put it with a bagged salad or cook some green beans at the same time.

I am also a fan of pizza with a couple of different vegetables on the side.

Could I ask a gnocchi question please? People have mentioned frying or adding to oven tray - do you have to boil them first? I've never thought of doing them any way except boiling and adding some kind of sauce, your ideas sound great.

YessicaHaircut · 19/04/2022 14:53

Ready made falafels warmed up in the microwave, put in wraps, topped with crumbled feta, a handful of salad and some tzatziki. Wrap and eat!

StellaAndCrow · 19/04/2022 14:54

Thank you for the carbonara recipe Flloyd. It has just occurred to me that I could make carbonara without bacon - maybe with mushrooms instead? I'm not veggie, I'm just afraid of bacon chewy bits :)

Nope, you can just roast them
fossilsmorefossils · 19/04/2022 15:02

Ooooh what a good question! Thanks for starting this thread, I need this too.

fossilsmorefossils · 19/04/2022 15:05

Mine is one of the roasting tins ones. Rice with a lot of cherry tomatoes on top and stock. Put chicken thigh on top and brush with peanut butter/ sssame oil/ soy sauce combo and close the pan with tin foil or a lid. Bang in the oven (according to her 30 minutes, according to me an hour). Serve with koriander (and maybe spring onions and peanuts)

HM macaroni cheese with tomatoes. DH just cooked it for lunch, it was lovely.

ThatOneTime · 19/04/2022 15:11

Fajitas, stirfry or carbonara (literally just chuck some chicken and bacon in stock with some onion and garlic from the freezer, whack it on low in the slowcooker for 4 hours then add a tub of cream and some pasta half an hour before serving)

Poach a fillet of smoked (undyed) haddock in milk for a few minutes. Meanwhile, boil some new potatoes. Steam some frozen lumps of spinach above the potatoes. Drain the pots; squeeze the spinach dry.

In a shallow casserole, randomly dot around chunky flakes of fish, the potatoes, some raw cherry tomatoes, and spoonfuls of spinach.

Make a cheese sauce using the fish milk , butter, flour, grated cheese, a grating of nutmeg, s+p. Pour sauce over the casserole contents. sprinkle on more grated cheese and some breadcrumbs.

Bake in the oven for 25 minutes.

On what planet is lasagne no effort?!

jackstini · 19/04/2022 15:25

Cheat's risotto

Microwave rice
Tin of soup
Protein/veg
Heat, stir together and sprinkle Parmesan on top

Version 1 - rice, cooked seafood cocktail, lobster bisque

Version 2 - rice, cooked chicken, peas, mushrooms, mushroom soup

Version 3 - rice, cooked salmon, asparagus, asparagus soup

Also used ham, spinach, smoked fish, chorizo, green beans - any combo you like really

You get the idea Smile

My butcher does really nice chicken kievs, he makes them in house. They are very handy to keep in the freezer then into the oven.

Yes you have to pre-plan. But often when I make mash I had a huge pot and freeze portions. I put them into muffin tins for 1 scoop portions. Very handy.

Frying pan that then goes into oven - tinned tomato's, half a bag of frozen peppers, mushrooms (courgettes/ onion/ what ever you fancy) mixed Italian herbs, pepperoni diced up, garlic, bring it all to simmer. Then add fresh pasta and some water (you want to cover the pasta). Bring to the boil. cover all in cheese and a few extra slices of pepperoni and into the oven/ grill for a few mins until golden. Takes about 15 mins total.

When I cook a lasagne I always make about 8 servings so again very easy.

And of course pizza. No effort at all and always good.

Is that the quickest one you cook?
irishfarmer · 19/04/2022 15:26

@nomistake she clarified she meant a shop bought one. For mine listed I mean the other portions not the 1st one!

Hobnobswantshernameback · 19/04/2022 15:27

These sound amazing

MikeandDave · 19/04/2022 15:28

Well this is a ready made thing but I like a quiche and salad.

I put mushrooms in sometimes but cook them separately and stir them in at the end otherwise it all goes a bit grey.
Redshoeblueshoe · 19/04/2022 15:32

Cheesey bread and butter pudding - that's genius.
