Child not eating veg

autienotnayghty · 19/04/2022 10:25

There's been a few discipline/parenting posts lately, I wanted to ask peoples opinion on something.

A child under six refusing vegetables. Do you-

A - make them eat it/punish not eating
B- bribe
C- stop giving veg
D - put it on plate and encouraging eating

Not talking about children with food allergies, phobias or sensory issues. Just general childrens eating.

D but I don't encourage, just put it on the plate with everything else, though I do give praise for trying new things.

Luckily DS2 loves fruit and always eats the veggie and lentil curries at nursery.

(DS1 has always liked vegetables)

D, add what veg we are having to the plate. I do take requests though, for examples DS prefers his carrots raw so I serve him raw carrots when we have cooked carrots for example.

We do a mix of A, B and D, because DD simply would not eat enough veg unless there was an incentive to do so. She would eat all the meat and carbs and then claim to be too full to eat the veg, while in the next breath asking for pudding.

Not on my watch! You don't eat your veg, you don't need a pudding. If you want a pudding, you need to eat a decent amount of veg first. It's not filling and she doesn't hate it, she'd just rather eat meat or sugary shite. She's 6 and doesn't know what's good for her.

E eat plenty of veg yourself, put it on the plate, don't comment, don't give alternative meals.
