Board games for 11 year old

Hi,

We have started playing board games in the evenings with our 11 year old. At the moment we are playing the old vintage ones I played as a child. Careers, Game of Life and The London Game (all of which are from the 70s!). Any suggestions for more modern games we might like?

my 11 year old likes:
Munchkins
Sushi Go
Fluxx
King of Tokyo
Labyrinth
Forbidden Island
He claims he likes Catan but whenever we play it he gets cross...

Monopoly deal, so much better than the original. Rummikub

Settlers of Catan. Our kids and their cousins were obsessed with this from about that age and into teenage years.

Mine likes Ticket to Ride, Monopoly, Cluedo, Scattegories and Tension. Also enjoys playing Trivial Pursuit on the Switch. Uno and exploding kittens are favourite card games.

ParisHarris · 19/04/2022 11:21

Chameleon- best game ever.

BlueChampagne · 19/04/2022 12:46

Second Settlers and Fluxx. Also have a look at Carcasonne, Jaipur and Hive. My 12yo likes Nusfjord, Wingspan and Caverna.

Boardgamegeek is a good website for previewing games.

Another vote for Catan! Banana grams is another good one, and the one that is like Bananagrams but with numbers.

Also, card games like Monopoly deal and Exploding Kittens

Over600Ecalypts · 19/04/2022 13:08

Cryptid - it's sort of like Cluedo but with a monster
Coup
Pandemic, Carcasonne and Catan (regular, Seafarers and Cities and Knights)

We also enjoy the various North Sea Saga games - Raiders, Explorers and Shipwrights.

Thirsty Meeples have board game cafes where a games master will recommend new games to try based on what you say you like. (Other places are opening similar cafes too)

MartyDoc · 19/04/2022 13:10

Camel up - fun betting game
Carcassonne /- simple to pick up and play
Pandemic - longer, more detailed to learn
Ticket to Ride / London one for a quick game, rails and sails etc for longer games
You can view most on YouTube first
