Hotel/afternoon tea recommendations

Hi,

It is my husband’s 40th birthday between Christmas and New Year and we would like to celebrate with a night in a hotel and maybe afternoon tea. We have 2 children aged 7 and 11 and budget is up to £300. We are in the South. Any recommendations?

The Vineyard near Newbury is lovely at Christmas time for afternoon tea. I don't know how much it would cost to stay overnight though.
