Washing pyjamas

Was just packing to go away and thought- people who wash PJs every day- what do you do on holiday? Do you take enough PJs for a new set every night on holiday? And take massive suitcases. Or do you spend your time washing?

And if you usually wash towels every day do you also do that on holiday?

(In my family we wear PJs for a week, unless very hot and sweaty, and use towels for a week too)

I take two pairs with me, chuck a pair in the wash each day. They dry in an hour in the sun.

ComDummings · 19/04/2022 09:21

If on holiday somewhere hot I just hand wash things if needed and put them on the balcony, things dry very quickly.

Furrbabymama87 · 19/04/2022 09:24

I like clean pjs every night, couldn't do a week. If there's no washing machine where we're staying I'll find a launderette.

I wear pjs 3 or 4 nights so just take 2 pairs on holiday.
No way would I be wasting my time at the launderette on holiday.
Towels use the hotels but don’t get them changed every day either.

BakewellGin1 · 19/04/2022 09:38

Towels we take one each and wash midway through or use one provided by hotel.
Pyjamas I take 3 pairs of shorts/cami tops.
I wash mine after every one or two wears. A week seems a bit yuck to me.

Thanks everyone. I can see that when on a hot holiday that washing/drying is quite easy. Winter holidays/ in the Uk would be trickier. Drying stuff on a balcony when it's below zero outside just doesn't work. The last place I went on holiday it was €10 to use the washing machine, and €5 for the drier.

It just wouldn't feel like much of a holiday having to do washing whilst away- it's bad enough when we self cater! I'd rate he spend the laundrette money on eating out.

Not going to lie, I've never taken more than one set of PJs away on a holiday.

CornishGem1975 · 19/04/2022 12:31

In hot weather I just wear pants or nothing at all, problem solved Grin

CrowAndArrow · 19/04/2022 12:39

I don't wear pj's in bed but do put them on each day after my shower. I'll usually go 3 or 4 days before washing them.

WomblingWilma · 19/04/2022 12:55

I usually wear silky negligee type nightdresses in bed. Only take up a tiny space in suitcase rolled up but if I didn’t take enough, I would rinse and hang out. It’d be dry in a few hours in warm weather.

I wouldn’t take pjs for DC or DH in hot weather. They can just wear boxers or pants and vest for girls.

KindergartenKop · 19/04/2022 16:04

@CornishGem1975 in bed or just generally round the shops/ on the beach

Nelliephant1 · 19/04/2022 16:10

I only book places that have laundry facilities, nothing worse than coming home with a case of dirty washing. Also wouldn't wear pjs or use towels for a week. I've just finished folding 34 towels from the last towel wash that was done on Sunday and there's another pile in the machine as we speak. 😄

Theoldwoman · 19/04/2022 16:28

I wear clean pjs every night and use towels once. I wash while I’m away because what’s worse is taking home bags of dirty stuff.

hellcatspangle · 19/04/2022 16:33

I wear a pair for a few nights so just take 2-3 pairs but I always wear a clean pair of knickers for bed (I know a lot of people don't like wearing knickers to bed hence the clean PJs every night).

bananaboats · 19/04/2022 16:58

I take 2/3 pairs for a week away, ive never done washing on holiday in my Life!

thedisappearedones · 19/04/2022 17:02

My kids wear clean pjs every night. A weeks holiday they wear pjs for 2 nights so take 3/4 pairs.

worriedaboutmoney2022 · 19/04/2022 19:22

Am I reading this right
Wearing the same pair of pyjamas for a week 🤮

Winterfellismyhome · 19/04/2022 19:30

Never a week. Usually 2 days then a fresh pair

Tabasco007 · 19/04/2022 19:32

Is this thread serious, there are people out there who wash pajamas after one wear, think of the planet! Having said that I sleep nude! But I do wear PJs when I get home and change, but I wash them every 4 days or so.

DappledThings · 19/04/2022 19:41

Yep, what's wrong with that? DH and I do. DC would if they didn't eat breakfast in them and get them filthy that way. If I can get 2 nights out of DC's I'm doing well.
Parkmama · 19/04/2022 19:43

Are there people out there that use a towel once and wash it?!! We each have a towel in our family and I wash them weekly so they get used at least 7 times and dried in between. Is that really gross?!!

CornishGem1975 · 19/04/2022 19:46

This is Mumsnet. If you don't shower three times a day you're a walking health hazard.
DinosApple · 19/04/2022 19:53

I'm away for 4 nights soon, I'm taking 2 pairs of PJs.
Am going away with friends though so it's not like I can sleep nude.

It should be warm enough to hand wash anything that needs turning around hopefully.

WindyKnickers · 19/04/2022 20:02

We've just come back from a week self catering. I did 2 small-ish loads of washing while we were there in the machine and hung it up outside to dry. Was way less effort than taking an extra suitcase and making sure we had enough + spares of everything. I wear my PJs usually 2-3 times before changing, DC the same unless they spill their breakfast or something. DS is 6 and is an absolute dirt magnet, he would need 2 full sets of clothes for each day + bed stuff, beach stuff, coats.

dumdumduuuummmmm · 19/04/2022 20:34

Is this one of those weird class things? Working class : use towels and wear pjs only once, middle class : wash weekly, upper class : no idea, maid does it
