I make really great pizza! It's taken a while to perfect it and seeing the family tucking in is very satisfying!
We have pizza night once week and I love that it's something everyone enjoys and it is so cheap to make!
What do you make that you are proud of?

I’m a good cook when I set my mind to it. When I can’t be bothered I make bolognese. Cooked low and slow in the oven for hours, it’s absolutely gorgeous.

Oh and my taboulleh is requested for every summer party.

LunaLoveFood · 19/04/2022 20:06

Yorkshire pudding, both dairy free/gluten free and normal.
It's taken a while but I've got a guaranteed recipe that make huge one's!

SpringLobelia · 19/04/2022 20:08

Roast chicken. I am known as the Chicken Queen (in a good way) in my family. I never get it wrong.

Bloodybridget · 19/04/2022 20:18

I'm generally an ok cook, one dish that seems pretty foolproof for me is paella - not claiming it's authentic, but very tasty. I usually make one with chicken, chorizo and prawns; recently tried just seafood and chorizo, which was also good.
I've used Delia Smith's Luxury fish pie recipe a few times and that's very nice too, but of course anyone can follow a recipe!

karmakemmie · 19/04/2022 20:23

I came on to say rice. I think it can be done really badly looking at you DP who is usually an excellent cook. I have been cooking it since I was about 12 though. Under the watchful eye of my Nigerian mum Smile

Orangesox · 19/04/2022 21:08

@Madcats

I usually recommend the Jamie Oliver Yorkshire Pudding recipe to my friends as a starting point (it’s broadly similar to the quantities I imagine I use). I do find with an electric oven that you need to ignore the temperature dial and simply go as high as possible so that might do the trick for you. Also, ideally you should use lard if you’re not vegetarian though and not a smidge but a whole chonk, and if you have even marginally hard water, use all milk for your wet ingredients or filtered water. Sounds crackers, but we moved to somewhere with terrible hard water and my beloved Yorkshires made with 50/50 water and milk were like pancakes Sad a change to milk or filtered water fixed it straight away.

It’s sometimes a case of trial and error, writing your recipe each time, tweaking until you get the write concoction. Do it when you’re not pressured to perform, and freeze up the edible results (those that don’t get eaten purely for research purposes of course Grin)

XenoBitch · 19/04/2022 21:09

I make a good courgette cake, so I am told.
@plominoagain I'd love some peking duck info if you'd be so kind
I'm at work now but I'll tell you tomorrow 😄

Ooh thanks, this would be amazing. I'll plan a trip to the butcher this weekend and have the family on standby for heaven

BlancmanegeBunny · 23/04/2022 16:12

@Oatsamazing The one I use is similar to Jamie Olivers. I recommend trying his. My chef brother has been giving me lessons and now I make a wetter dough with less yeast and a longer rise... Its quite hard to handle!!!

I make a bangin' spag bol!

NightmareSlashDelightful · 23/04/2022 17:31

I’ve got the magic touch with eggs, apparently. Poached, scrambled, fried, boiled, whatever.

SquigglePigs · 23/04/2022 17:55

It's an odd one but homemade garlic bread - gets adults and kids alike excited! Also my homemade burgers always go down so well at summer BBQs!

rumred · 23/04/2022 18:00

I make good curries. My dahl is ace. The key is a full spice tin.
Also make good bread, especially foccacia.
I love baking. I think love helps improve any food

sophienelisse · 23/04/2022 18:00

Lasagne.
I like my own better than any restaurant. My sauce is better Smile

woodhill · 23/04/2022 18:03

I'm good at deserts making Pavlova, roulade, Bakewell tart etc

@SadButTheTruth

My Bolognese is a winner in this house and I make a really good chicken curry from scratch. My DH and children eat them like they’re starved, even though it gets dished up several times a month! These are the only 2 things I can make without the assistance of sauces and packets or other input of the ready made variety. I can’t bake or make any desserts either. My other food is eaten but not appreciated in the same way.
Can you share your recipes for these?

@SadButTheTruth Please coddle you share the curry recipe?🍷

DotBall · 23/04/2022 18:11

Jam and marmalade. Never had one turn out wrong.

Strawberry, blackcurrant, mixed fruit, plum, blackberry, crab apple, raspberry - they all turn out cracking 😎

HighlandCowbag · 23/04/2022 18:15

I make an awesome roast dinner, curry, lasagne and beef stew and dumplings. @

MangoLipstick · 23/04/2022 18:19

Chicken curry and naan bread

Roast dinner
Carrot cake
banana bread

DrNo007 · 23/04/2022 20:04

I make a great mushroom bourgignon cobbler but cannot claim credit for the recipe, which belongs to the Hairy Bikers. My bread is also wonderful but can’t make pastry and my cakes are very hit and miss.

ChateauCat · 23/04/2022 18:08

@SadButTheTruth Please coddle you share the curry recipe?🍷

@Irishgal20 and @ChateauCat Will do! I’m just going to double check the ingredients as it’s an eyeballed and inherited recipe (my mum copying it from her Malaysian friend!!) so I don’t want to miss anything.

TheDoveFromAboveCooCoo · 24/04/2022 09:18

Proper curry that's not out of a jar!

I do a mean steak and somehow can cook to everyone's liking.

My Yorkshire puds (I'm a Yorkshire girl though so I have to do these well or risk deportation to Lancashire)

PeggyGa · 24/04/2022 09:22

Roast dinners, yorkshires, home made burgers

JeffThePilot · 24/04/2022 09:23

Roast potatoes, pastry, chocolate cherry muffins.

I can never cook duck properly though.

startrek90 · 24/04/2022 09:55

I make a mean chocolate fudge cake, I always get asked the recipe and my MiL always asks me to make it for her birthday.

I also make really good BBQ ribs or Asian style ribs. My burgers are pretty good. My FiL and husband always want me to make food for a BBQ lol.

I also make a good lasagna and spaghetti Bolognese.
