I make really great pizza! It's taken a while to perfect it and seeing the family tucking in is very satisfying!
We have pizza night once week and I love that it's something everyone enjoys and it is so cheap to make!
What do you make that you are proud of?

I used to be very bad at main meals.

I can now do a very nice chicken rendang - I even grind the spices (garlic, fresh ginger, cardamom, black pepper)

I also do quite a good slightly spicy sausage bake that I found by chance on the Schwartz website. It’s full of very good veggies and useful for using up potatoes etc.

Risotto

I am very patient

@SunnydaleHSAlumna

I recently finally cracked making rotis and was so proud of myself!

I want to conquer scones next, I’m a good baker generally but scones elude me!

8oz SR flour 2oz marg (flora buttery is good) 1oz caster sugar

1 egg mixed into a milk - half a mug in total.

Rub marg into flour
Add sugar
Add egg mix and leave some to brush the tops.

I don't knead or rest I just mix it all together, cut it out nice and thick.

Brush with milk, top with more sugar

Oven for 15-20 mins at 175

Easy perfect scones every time

@Jamboree01

Nothing special. New potatoes boiled until almost soft. Allow to cool a bit, snip in fresh chives, splurge of salad cream and mix

bettertocryinamercedes · 18/04/2022 20:55

Paul Hollywood recipe looks like a faff and mine are much tastier 😉

Oh I'm jealous. One for my favourite memories of Sri Lanka were breakfast egg rotis

Profiteroles with cointreau and Terry's chocolate orange.

MartinMartinMarti · 18/04/2022 21:05

I make excellent basmati rice. Which sounds easy, but I know many people who murder it.

Also baked Alaska, which is dead easy but looks impressive.

SadButTheTruth · 18/04/2022 21:15

My Bolognese is a winner in this house and I make a really good chicken curry from scratch. My DH and children eat them like they’re starved, even though it gets dished up several times a month! These are the only 2 things I can make without the assistance of sauces and packets or other input of the ready made variety. I can’t bake or make any desserts either. My other food is eaten but not appreciated in the same way.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 18/04/2022 21:17

I make an amazing roast, including gravy (no Bisto here); and fantastic bread.

Jamboree01 · 18/04/2022 21:17

Thank you

Camomila · 18/04/2022 21:25

Bolognese and lasagne...because I'm from Northen Italy so it'd be a bit embarrassing otherwise Grin

Birthday cakes - DS1 is always happy when I make his requests and this year told me mine tasted much nicer than the big supermarket cake I got for his party (I bought a cake for his party as the homemade cake we shared with grandparents had nuts in the recipe)

Crucible · 18/04/2022 21:26

My potato salad gets very big thumbs up every time.
Boiled baby new potatoes (Lidl Deluxe Alexandra's are perfect) left to go to room Temp. Add a mix of 50/50 full fat mayo and 0% fat yoghurt (I like Fage). Add about half teaspoon of maldon salt flakes and a big pinch white pepper. Snip chives over the top and it's the absolute best.

Biffatcrafts · 18/04/2022 21:38

I'm quietly proud of my Ensaladilla Rusa or as it is now known where I live, Ensaladilla Ucrania. Even have had my Spanish friends ask me for my recipe Smile

Amybelle88 · 18/04/2022 22:36

Roast dinners
Chicken pie
Ham and lentil soup
Curry
Lasagne
Salt and pepper salmon bake

I'm a fairly decent cook my husband loves it 😂

Can you share your recipes for these?
nearlyspringyay · 18/04/2022 22:47

Paella and crispy pork Pho

Crinkle77 · 18/04/2022 22:49

@Cheesechips

Poached eggs! I completely destroy fried eggs but make a mean poached one!
I came on here to say I'm really good at making poached eggs. Can't make a decent omelette to save my life though.
TheUnexpectedPickle · 18/04/2022 22:51

I can make perfect soft boiled eggs with soldiers and a banging roast dinner.

TheGratefulBread · 18/04/2022 22:52

Beigels (bagels). Proper Jewish beigels. Getting the seal of approval from my grandmother for my beigels, was one of life's proudest moments!

MumstedInadequate · 18/04/2022 22:53

Salmon - I season and grill it to perfection every time

Also chicken curries are almost always delicious, especially Butter chicken

And Aubergine curry, oh and pagodas with any manky old veg

I'd love a roti recipe @SunnydaleHSAlumna if easy to point me at a good recipe / share any secret tips?

TheUnexpectedPickle · 18/04/2022 22:55

Oh, also Bailey's and Malteser no bake cheesecake which is requested every Christmas as my sister's alternative to my mums dessert (she doesn't like many desserts)

Northbynorthbreast · 18/04/2022 22:56

Perfect fluffy white rice.

I am also the queen of the open sandwich

I was just coming on to say rice, it took me years to get it just right, now if husband cooks something that involves rice he gets me to do the rice bit!
