I make really great pizza! It's taken a while to perfect it and seeing the family tucking in is very satisfying!
We have pizza night once week and I love that it's something everyone enjoys and it is so cheap to make!
What do you make that you are proud of?

Poached eggs
Yorkshire puds
Roasties

I suck at baking though!
Pancakes are a disaster every bloody time!
Luckily I'm not a sweet tooth anyway.

MarmitesMyMate · 18/04/2022 23:15

Roast

NormaLouiseBates · 18/04/2022 23:21

Baking in general. I dislike cooking and would happily eat a ready meal, pizza or takeaway every night if I could.

But baking is my happy place. The one thing I'm most proud of are my macarons. So much so that I started my own small business selling them 😊

Gravy (not with Bisto!) - makes all the difference to a roast
Lasagne (learned to make it in Tuscany)
Scones (am a proper Devon lass, so was a rite of passage)

MintJulia · 18/04/2022 23:36

Lemon drizzle cake,
all manner of soups,
Trout with lemon and herbs - my favourite meal at the moment

plominoagain · 18/04/2022 23:44

Peking duck . Cook it so often I can reel the recipe off by heart .

Likewise any roast dinner except pork .

But I’m spectacularly crap at rice .

SillySallySassySausage · 18/04/2022 23:45

A steak. I can grill a banging steak. Sounds simple but I've perfected it to restaurant level and I love it.

echt · 19/04/2022 00:50

Fish stew
Lots of Indian food from the Meera Sodha cookbooks
Chillie con kanga

Khalas · 19/04/2022 02:07

Pastry, even though I can't stand the stuff. On the rare occasion I make a pie for him, my DH is very appreciative!

Also, poached eggs and perfect rice each time.

Am too intimidated to make a roast dinner, so swings and roundabouts.

WallpaperWonder · 19/04/2022 02:56

Cinnamon rolls and pea soup. Not at the same time though.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 19/04/2022 11:04

@bettertocryinamercedes

Paul Hollywood recipe looks like a faff and mine are much tastier 😉
Don't make me come over there Grin Paul Hollywood scones are awesome.
mrziggycoco · 19/04/2022 11:49

I love my staples; lasagne, chicken pie, cheesecake, coconut curry, bolognaise, and fajitas - these are largely our staple dinners. All plant-based.

Sitdownplease · 19/04/2022 11:54

Roast. Including gravy and roast potatoes. Also a chicken and leak pie.

I cannot cook roast beef though. Bugs the life out of me.

SageRosemary · 19/04/2022 12:11

Scrambled eggs and omelettes - nicer than you'll get at a hotel breakfast or restaurant, I never order them out any more.
Soups - Carrot & Coriander, Leek & Potato, Golden Vegetable
Potatoes - Roast, Mashed, Wedges, Rustic
Tomato sauce for the basis of Bolognese, Pizza, Nachos
Toasted sandwiches, wraps
Homemade burgers and meatballs
Cake pops

MumstedInadequate · 19/04/2022 12:30

@plominoagain I'd love some peking duck info if you'd be so kind

DreamingOfTowels · 19/04/2022 12:46

I make an amazing fried chicken with hot honey drizzled on the top, a great peppercorn sauce from scratch, good toastie combinations and a very good salad dressing.

MacaroniSqueeze · 19/04/2022 13:04

Bloody hell you lot, you are amazing! MN need to do another recipe book
Mine:
Yorkshire puddings
Orange drizzle cake (can make lemon too but orange is lush)
Dumplings
Duck - is always perfect
Can't cook steak or a full roast without people gagging

plominoagain · 19/04/2022 19:22

I'm at work now but I'll tell you tomorrow 😄

Hm2020 · 19/04/2022 19:24

Roast potatoes
Steak

FrenchyQ · 19/04/2022 19:30

My roast potatoes are legendary in my house.
Chicken chasseur, my husband doesn't really like stews but he always wolf's this down.

Madcats · 19/04/2022 19:38

@Orangesox

Yorkshire puddings that are eyeballed, no measuring required, most cakes are just thrown in as are pretty much every meal that I make - very rare I use a recipe other than for some inspiration. Always get compliments on my cooking so must be good!
@Orangesox can I plead for the Yorkshires recipe/technique.

I felt sure that I used to be able to churn them out from an elderly gas oven, but the current electric oven has a hatred of the things!

My cakes seem okay (maybe the oven hates Sunday lunch cooking)

VampireMoney · 19/04/2022 19:41

My roasties
Cheesecakes (all kinds)
My full English is spot on too
Macaroni cheese and cauliflower cheese because my cheese sauce is epic
Roast ham

A580Hojas · 19/04/2022 19:42

I can make about 60(?) varied family meals using mainly fresh ingredients and incorporating several veg, without a recipe. I think that's reasonably good going. My family do appreciate it.

I can make pastry (cold hands) but don't do it often.

I bake a cake about once a year, baking isn't my thing.

VampireMoney · 19/04/2022 19:42

Oh and my DD1 says my mashed potato is the best there is

Longdistance · 19/04/2022 19:45

Roasts and that includes the potatoes. Roasted meats with homemade gravy and crispy potatoes.
I have multiple visitors for my roasts.
Baileys cheesecake 🥴
I make a decent curry and Chinese dinner. The peace at the dinner table is heavenly.
Duck breast with Chinese five spice.
Paella.
Risotto.
Tortilla (the Spanish omelette, not crisps).
Rákot krumpli. It’s a Hungarian dish of layered potatoes, sausage and egg cooked with cream or crème fresh. Silence at the table is golden.
