Wow me with your lovely curtains

I want some curtains after about 5 years of minimalist Venetian blinds in the sitting room. I've got new, linen roller blinds and a neutral pallet so I could go mad but all I can see are florals and tartans.
If you love your curtains, could you show me, please?

Sorry, I meant a neutral palette Grin

These were mine. I loved them but sadly they didn't match my windows or new colour scheme when I moved so I had to get rid of them. Not sure where they came from though. Although I have seen them advertised in one of those catalogue things that come in the post.

Thanks, everyone. I am so indecisive at the best of times and it does help to get some inspiration.
@HopingForMyRainbowBaby looks like a tricky window to fit curtains.

I'm drawn to these although they're very inexpensive and that always worries me!

They are good! I would not worry about them being inexpensive because shops etc often like a clear out to bring in new stock. John Lewis have lovely curtains, some on sale now. Enjoy!

I like them OP, it's a nice touch to have that outline print on the lining. I googled Catherine Lansfield curtains and they sell them on the Next website. Only one review for your pair...

Review rating - 5 out of 5.
Curtains are quite thin material but for the price couldn't expect anything else. Nice & bright. Hang really well & are lined.

Hope that helps. Maybe you can find other reviews elsewhere?

Undertheoldlindentree · 18/04/2022 02:17

Or could you have them as summer curtains and get heavier ones for winter?

Porkmore · 18/04/2022 13:37

I always look at a local page for inspiration - curtains in mansfield- bracton interiors. They have lots of pics. I've had a few pairs from them as well

barneymcgroo · 18/04/2022 13:44

If you know what width and drop you need, my mother has just done an amazing job kitting out a house with curtains from eBay. Properly made, lined, pencil pleat ones for a fraction of the price they'd be new.

Wauden · 18/04/2022 14:13

I have patterned carpets or rugs so I am looking for plain curtains, preferably with a texture.

Greygreygrey · 18/04/2022 14:46

I am proud to have made these myself. But I think the pelmet should have been deeper. Looks a little skimpy.

Mine aren't dissimilar to greygreygreys. Linen type fabric at £27 per meter. Three widths per curtain and interlined. I think in total there were 44 metres of fabric. Including new poles a shade under £4000. Could easily have spent much more Blush

hawleybits · 18/04/2022 17:38

RosesAndHellebores £4K? On one set of curtains? Grief! I do recognise that you get what you pay for and curtains are no exception - nothing worse than a cheap-looking pair of curtains but I will be aiming to spend significantly less Grin

Greygreygrey yours are fab and I am almost inspired to give it a go.

Undertheoldlindentree thanks for the research. I did look on the website but there didn't seem to be much to look at there, although there are lots of Catherine Lansfield curtains on Amazon. I can definitely do the summer/winter swap, that's a good idea.

Greygreygrey · 18/04/2022 18:37

The materials cost me £1295 total. Plus a weekend of my time. That includes:
Curtain fabric
Piping
Lining fabric
Inner lining (cotton bump)
Thread
Velcro (to keep the pelmet up)
Curtain hooks
Curtain tape

I’m really pleased with the piping, easy to do and a nice detail. I’d like to get a custom made iron curtain rail and chuck the pelmet. I’d also like to change the paint colour of the walls. What I have is too dark and with a greenish undertone.

RosesAndHellebores · 18/04/2022 19:14

@hawleybits two sets - it's a double.aspect room and included two state-of-the-art the art poles.

hawleybits · 18/04/2022 21:40

As someone who never buys fabric, I hadn't considered the cost but apparently, it's a major investment. We have a huge fabric warehouse near us and as I'm off work all next week, I might pop in and see if anything takes my fancy.

I have these from John Lewis in my bedroom and I adore them. They’re the most lovely curtains I’ve ever owned and so much better in real life than the photo. They’re statement curtains and I have quite a big window in my bedroom and they have real impact.

They look absolutely stunning!
sleepymum50 · 19/04/2022 11:28

I have bought my last set on eBay. There’s always someone selling really good quality lined curtains for about half price or lower.
