Power generator at my front door

Does anyone know about these big power generators I'm assuming the neighbour across the road has or is experiencing some kind of power problem and I'm not even a nosy type neighbour but what my concern is lately is that it's been here 7days now and it's obviously non stop I can deal with the noise that's minor but what 8m struggling with is the fumes or smoke cuming from it I've had to keep my windows closed this week with the generator being so very close to my house the smell of smoke/fumes/petrol type smell is getting in my house and I'm now concerned for my asthma I feel like this smoke coming of can not be healthy at all and a week of this is making me ill its constantly on doesn't turn off 7days of this toxic type smoke and rumbling like I say the rumbling is easy to deal with but 7days of the toxic smelling stuff isn't I can see the smoke that comes out it looks like a cars petrol tank type smoke and it smells of burning and burning rubber or something and it's thick smoke aswell does anyone no if a week of this and 24hours non stop is allowed if so then I suppose nothing I can do but as a person with chronic asthma I do no it is not good. Thanks in advance

A) you need to learn to use full stops! Grin

B) why don't you pop over and ask your neighbour what it's for and for how long?

LivingDeadGirlUK · 17/04/2022 17:53

We are going to need a diagram :) It sounds like a diesel generator, how far is it from your windows?

TwoDaysOff · 17/04/2022 18:11

Talk to your neighbour and see if it can be relocated?

Boo39 · 17/04/2022 18:34

😉😊 Yes apologies I do need full stops... I was thinking about asking my neighbour this is a first for me. I have some pics if someone can guide me on how to post them here and thanks.

I did not get a answer from the neighbour
Did they just blank you when you asked? It's really a how long is a piece of string question without knowing more details about why, which they will be best to answer.

ElenaSt · 17/04/2022 20:22

Does he run a business from his home?

Why do you think strangers on the net can answer those questions? Only the neighbour knows what it's for and how long it will be there. Keep trying their door.
Boo39 · 17/04/2022 20:26

I will try again soon but I hope it does get sorted soon for the neighbour and also myself I don't think I'd be that concerned as things like this happen it's more my asthma I worry about thanks all for replys😊

I dont understand why if the generator is for neighbour across the road, the thing is sitting on your side of the street.
Surely it should be as close as possible to house without power

Georgeskitchen · 17/04/2022 21:14

Make a complaint to environmental health

Saracenia · 17/04/2022 21:56

Generators smell awful. Could you ask your neighbour to re-site it away from your windows?

Honeyroar · 17/04/2022 22:00

It seems really unreasonable to run it 24hours a day, it ought to be off overnight at the least. Even freezers would be ok for a few hours.

Boo39 · 17/04/2022 22:41

My thought also👍😊

Boo39 · 17/04/2022 22:45

Yes I totally agree it's does not turn of at all its been 8days today and wasn't really sure if anyone knew anything about these generators and if there's a time limit but all I no is 8days solid of rumbling and the diesel smelly fumes is a lot I think but I no nothing these things first time I've saw anything like it and I'm almost 40 😂

I've just been informed according to a neighbour along the street that there has been a man/watchman that has been in his car daily and was told that its to watch or keep a eye on the generator!!.. I don't no how true this is if anyone can help in regards to that he has been parking up whom ever it is to basically watch the generator🤔

Thankyou for understanding I didn't think I'd get some rude ppl answer on but thankyou for your answer it makes me think I'm not being a nosy type neighbour😂😂I no I'm not but it's a lot 8days constantly running isn't it xxx

And why not??

OP posts:
Justkeeppedaling · 17/04/2022 23:08

It does seem odd, but no one on MN will know why it's there.
I'd love to know though, after you've asked the people in the house that's using it.

I know they didn't answer the first time you tried, but you can try again, or pop a note through the door with your phone no and ask them to call you.

Theoldwrinkley · 17/04/2022 23:09

Have you suffered power cut/cuts recently? This time last year we had fireworks in the field behind us and no power. It was quite a major fault and the whole village was off grid for about 3 weeks. There were 3 large diesel generators, one about 40 yards from our house. Not good, but I'd prefer that to no power for 3 weeks.

C25kBecky · 17/04/2022 23:25

Can you move it?
