It's that time of year again, and I always feel like I pack the same boring and beige old sarnies when we take the kids out for the day. Please inspire me with your yummy picnic staples! Extra points if a picky 3-year-old might eat it 😁

How about frittata, olives , pate , crunchy bread, salad's , chicken drumsticks always go down well , pies . The list is endless if you just think of buffet foods you can't go far wrong 😁

Packet of crackers. Tub of humous. Punnet of grapes. Promise of an ice cream from the kiosk if they behave themselves.

Nailed it Grin

Honestly, speaking as the veteran of a decade of picnics... save your effort.

Hotdogs 🌭! A huge hit with my kids and their friends.

Heat up and pop in a flask. Take a pack of Hotdogs buns, and a small bottle of ketchup. Works well even if the weathers a bit chilly.

My mum used to do:

  • cold chicken drumsticks
-boiled eggs (stayed in the shell then we cracked them open when we were ready to eat them)
  • cherry tomatoes
  • penguins or Kitkats
  • crisps
  • satsumas
  • French baguette sliced and buttered

Then we had an empty Robinsons squash bottle that would be filled and frozen the night before so it kept everything cold and meant we had ice cold squash to drink.

In my memory it was the very best picnic menu.

Crusty bread; pate; brie; red onion marmalade; good quality sausage rolls and then deli stuff like ricotta stuffed cherry peppers; mixed olives and feta; grilled artichokes...

These have been pur picnic staples for years. The children would have been very disappointed if it ever deviated!
