When is a dog barking a nuisance?

There is a dog behind our house (few doors up)…. it has the most horrible bark like it’s in pain. Initially we thought it was a fox! It’s not just annoying us but quite a few of our neighbours. It has an almost loud yelp/howl like bark. It’s definitely a dog as neighbours (the dog lives behind them) have confirmed this as they too are frustrated by the regular barking. We have so many dogs on our road but never hear them! It’s just this one dog that has an irritating , loud and regular bark.

The neighbours who back onto the dog’s garden wonders if it’s in pain?

You're local council website should have details of what constitutes a nuisance and it's a good idea to keep a record and report it (I'd talk to the neighbour first though).

I sympathise with you. Our old neighbours with a really barky dog moved out 3 weeks ago and a new one moved in that seems even worse. It will bark for half an hour at a time, a few times a day. It often seems to be set off by the four (!) dogs the other side, which are really yappy. I'm keeping a record of the noise nuisance, my husband is going to go around when he is over covid, and then if it doesn't stop we'll take our records to the council.

It's awful isn't it? I'm quite stressed a lot of the time and feel like I'm waiting for the next episode of barking. Our new neighbour also has his telly loud so he obviously isn't bothered about being neighbourly. Barely twenty minutes goes by without hearing dog's barking, I hate it.

It is getting a bit stressful - by the time I forget it starts again. I don’t understand how we’re surrounded by dogs but never hear them but this one dog just never stops! It also has the most pained howl in the world! I wish I could post a recording of it!
