Never had a gel ped.
Are they worth getting? How long does the gel last? Do they still stay looking nice after wearing socks etc?

God yes! I only have gel now. My pedi looks decent for about 3 months (no chips, and stays shiny, but eventually the nails grow really long).

My friend has them. She does a lot of running and they look good. We both have gels on hands them changed every 3 weeks.

I cant stand having my feet touched and like to keep my toenails short. I don’t understand how my friend can manage 3 weeks growth in toes with all the running she does!

I have them done and they last for at least 3 weeks before I notice any regrowth. Perfect for holidays.

They are fine under socks as the gel is cured.

I run with gel on my toes. When I get my pedi I get the therapist to cut my toenails first as short as she possibly can. I then just trim them at home in between pedis; it means you get a bit of nail bed showing at the base but as it's your feet and no one looks that closely at your feet I think it looks fine.

Should have added I notice regrowth but I leave them for a couple more weeks as the gel is still shiny etc.

I’ve just had my first gel pedi done yesterday so I don’t know how well it will last but o m g the difference it has made to my hobbit feet!! It’s so shiny and lovey!!

Sunnysidegold · 16/04/2022 09:06

It's brilliant for holidays as it's so hard wearing. As your toenails grow more slowly than fingernails you get a lot longer out of it too.

The gel gets cured under a UV light which makes it really hard and it won't smudge under socks after it's done.

I hate having my feet touched by other people so I have my own kit which I do when I want nice toe nails, takes a while to get the hang of doing it but it’s fab - my toe nails look soo much better with gel than with normal polish.

Lasts weeks as well, never chips and always looks really shiny!

FlowerArranger · 16/04/2022 10:38

Definitely worth it, especially for holidays and during the British sandal wearing season. Very hard wearing, even with shoes and trainers.

I use an ordinary nail polish in the same colour to patch up regrowth, so it can last up to 6 weeks at least.

FairyCakeWings · 16/04/2022 10:43

The look lovely, but I hate being restricted by having to go back to the shop to get them taken off. Long toenails and the re growth at the base irrationality irritate me, so I’d rather be able to cut them and remove the polish myself at home as soon as I feel the need.

Regular polish looks just as good and won’t smudge as long as you spend long enough under the dryer.

I only ever have gel now, on feet it lasts for weeks! I did invest in my own lamp, base and top coats and colours during lockdown and it's proved a great investment. The cost of the kit paid for itself after two mani/pedis, plus I no longer have to spend time in the salon and can do my own in the evenings when it suits me. It took a couple of attempts before I really got the hang of it, but my DIY jobs are almost as good as the salon now. Plus DH usually gets me a couple of new colours for birthdays/Christmas etc so I can build up my range, I've got a pretty good selection now Smile

Thanks guys!
At work I have to wear uniform boots, thick socks but when off I'm usually bare foot.

I dont bother with gel on my toes, I like Vinylux polish which lasts as long on toes as gel but can be taken off with 'normal' polish remover rather than needing tobe soaked. Its dry in 10 mins so no smudging.
