What's your "happy place"?

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 15/04/2022 16:40

You know when people say (on TV, normally, I don't think I've ever heard anyone say it IRL) "go to your happy place"? Well, where's yours?

I've realised I have four:

  1. in my garden on a sunny day, listening to the bees buzz (where I am right now, in fact)
  2. floating on the surface of the sea somewhere warm and sunny
  3. cuddled up on the sofa with my DC on a cold night, watching Strictly
  4. with DH in our local cinema at Christmas, drinking wine and watching It's A Wonderful Life

Al places that when I think of them bring me a sense of peace and calm and happiness.

Where are yours?

Scuba diving 30m under water, deep breathing, looking at pretty fish and coral. Important part of this is no one can talk to me. No-one. Sound is muted. There's a special noise of sand being made or the odd distant rumble of a boat engine. Sometimes if you're super lucky you can hear dolphins. Zen perfection, sadly limited currently but I'll get back there one day.

BBQ in my garden in summer.

By the sea…anywhere will do.

Home.

MakingProgress2022 · 15/04/2022 18:12

In my garden and my house.

Got out of a D marriage and home is safe and happy.

Most cities in Europe, I love being there so much.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 15/04/2022 18:12

On holiday in Lyme Regis

Joyfulflowers · 15/04/2022 18:20

What a lovely thread

I'm happiest on a beach reading with a cocktail to hand also lying on my bed in a silent house, reading, getting lost in a story.

Last summer we had a family party with 4 generations present, it was such a joyous day, I was so happy that day, I think back to it often

Potnoodleforbrains · 15/04/2022 18:33

The coastal paths around tintagel.

TheGigoloAunt · 15/04/2022 18:36

Up on the South Downs, with the views out to sea; and inland, over my home turf.
There's a teeny tiny church nearby, too, which is so peaceful. I'm not particularly religious but this little gem always lifts my spirits.

My gazebo type thing I have built on the back of my kitchen leading to the garden. I can sit in it and listen to the rain and it opens to the garden.

Or my mums

Justmuddlingalong · 15/04/2022 18:42

Mine is under a palm sunshade on the beach in the Dominican Republic, listening to the waves lap on the shore. It was so sunny and hot, I'd had a few Pina coladas and I sleepily said to DP "this is my happy place." He'd no Idea what I was talking about. That was about 14 years ago but I can still be back there in a second.

An empty Ikea with just me inside.

AchillesLastStand · 15/04/2022 18:58

At home, always at home. More specifically in my bed watching TV or reading, or in my craft room creating.

BeanCounterBabe · 15/04/2022 19:02

The seafront view in my hometown, particularly when I’m in the water (I swim all year round). Most of Cornwall, particularly Falmouth down to The Lizard, on the sofa with DH, feet up, cat curled up next to me, wine in hand. Out and about with the kids on a bike track, beach, moors, wherever.

SpecificPacific · 15/04/2022 19:03

For me it’s home…in our cosy house or out walking on one of the many beaches we can walk to. Happy in any weather. We live on a tiny island in the Hebrides…one small grocery shop and a couple of small hotel restaurants and that’s it. It’s difficult and quite expensive to get here so it never gets very busy even in Summer. So far removed from mainland life, I feel so safe here.

That sounds amazing. It’s my dream to live up there.

I have lots of happy places, but my ultimate happy place is on the sofa in my pj's, glass of wine in hand, woodburner lit, dog curled up next to me, TV on, candles lit, and my husband cooking something delicious for dinner.
We've been together 17 years and I'm not remotely bored of this scenario and don't think I ever will be!

OrangeBananaFish · 15/04/2022 19:26

At the start of a race (running)
A town called Frejus in the French Riveria. Haven't been able to go for a few years, but really hoping it a possibility in 2023
In my parents front room with a beer in hand
A couple of places on my running routes near home
The bath, especially after a long run

bloodywhitecat · 15/04/2022 19:30

I don't know at the moment. It used to be Southwold with DH and I was going to go this weekend but I am missing DH more than ever today and I am not sure I can hold it together if I do go.

I hope I can find that place again one day.

ineedsun · 15/04/2022 19:33

At the top of the (currently non-existent) steps down to Rockham Bay.

Doing yoga and meditating in my garden.

ladygindiva · 15/04/2022 19:37

1 playing my piano
2 the bath
3 snuggled in bed reading next to my dog

RosesAndHellebores · 15/04/2022 19:44

My homes in the UK and France
A luxurious bubble bath
With my DC (27 and 23)

And anywhere with DH.

Abelard40 · 15/04/2022 19:49

A very particular quiet beach in Paxos we have been to every 11 years. My front garden swing seat. My bath. The sign that says how many miles it is to Leeds on our way past Sheffield on the long drive up from the SW to my parents. Everything on my phone pre March 2020 😵‍💫

Abelard40 · 15/04/2022 19:52

Oh and Southerndown beach in Wales. Every summer. Rick pools, pebbly part, Sandy part, Victorian walled garden for packed lunches.. beautiful. Always come away rosy cheeked and happy with fossils in buckets.

Mumski45 · 15/04/2022 19:52

Climbing Longridge Fell on my Bike. Will be doing this tomorrow🚴‍♀️🚴‍♀️🚴‍♀️
