Did I mess up? Bread and butter pudding with fresh bread!!!

I'm having family over for dinner on Saturday and I have made Delia's chocolate bread and butter pudding which you made 2 days before. My bread was still fresh and I forgot to dry it out in the oven and now I am panicking.
I don't want to redo it as the cream and chocolate etc make this more of a pricey pud.

Any ideas or words of comfort? Grin

It wont make any difference.

Ive never made bread and butter pudding with dried out or stale bread

Bread pudding yes, dried out bread or stale bread for that.

bellsbuss · 14/04/2022 23:25

I never knew you were supposed to dry the bread out, I've always made it with fresh bread.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 14/04/2022 23:27

It just won't soak up as much of the custard as stale dry bread would. Otherwise it will be no different.

It should be fine. Bread and butter pudding uses older bread as a way of using it up, but no real reason why fresh isn't okay

BigFatLiar · 14/04/2022 23:29

It'll be fine. I think the idea with the old bread is it absorbs more of the liquid but if you're not a chef or critic you'll probably be hard pressed to tell the difference.

I make this every year for an alternative to Christmas pud. I use day old bread but have never dried it especially and it's usually still pretty fresh. It will be fine! It's easy to burn the top so keep an eye when it's cooking

littledrummergirl · 14/04/2022 23:46

It was a way of using stale bread so nothing was wasted. It should be fine.

carefullycourageous · 14/04/2022 23:47

It will be fine. The ingredients are: bread butter sugar butter cream chocolate - what could go wrong Grin

Op you have inspired me to go and make this 😍

Indoorcatmum · 15/04/2022 17:12

@Muminabun
I'm hoping it's delicious! I had a sneaky taste of the melted chocolate in the cream before I added the eggs and I had to put the spoon in the dishwasher to stop myself eating it lol.
Good luck with yours Smile

Yes, it's just a way of using up stale bread from a time when it only stayed fresh a day or two and people couldn't afford to waste food.

Using fresh bread to make it isn't wrong, it's just too indulgent for most people. A bit like buying ready made cottage pie instead of using up leftover roast meat or eating a whole chicken in one meal instead of making it stretch a few days.

My grandma used to buy nice bread from the bakers just to make B&B pudding, my grandad used to go nuts

It'll be fine op
