To not understand the need for "walks"

Anyone else similar to me and not understand the need for walks or enjoyment in walking.
My in laws are obsessed with walking and think i'm odd (or maybe a sloth!) for not wanting to go out daily walking.
Where is the enjoyment in mud and rain? I would rather chill with a good book. Please tell me I'm not on my own?

See, I used to be very much of the "book indoors, warm, dry" persuasion.
But at some point in my 40s/50s I found myself liking the movement, the fresh air, the exploration, the stimulation of real changing scenery.
Suspect this is true for a lot of people, it's a stage-of-life thing.

‘I can't for the life of me imagine why anyone would ever darken the doors of a gym, though. One man's meat, and all that.’

Really?

Deadlifts changed my whole life.

I know Confused, but it’s a public forum so I saw your post and responded to it.
I was just pointing out why some people walk for exercise!

I know some people walk for exercise. Many pp have said as such. I was just saying that I don't need to walk to exercise, I am a regular gym goer. PP were talking as if you don't go for walks, you don't exercise.

@TheOrigRights

I do listen to podcasts, that makes it bearable. I'm limited with other forms of exercise at the moment.

For me it's being in the fresh air. I like cycling too (need to buy a new bike). The only exercise I love doing inside is swimming. Running though is not for me. Everyone's different.

I'm fairly new to 'pointless walking having started about 3 months ago... I have to say, I love it. I'm lucky to live in a beautiful part of the country with lots of nature walks nearby and having also come really late to Podcasts, I love nothing more than plugging myself in and setting off on a mini adventure. I prefer alone but a friend sometimes comes too which means we catch up properly, without any distractions.

I do get why people don't enjoy it but it's such an easy way to get some fitness in, I'm kicking myself for not having got started earlier.

I just get really depressed walking about on my own with nowhere to go. Just confirms for me that I’ve got no friends and nothing to do.

Plus, I live in a shithole so there’s no where pretty. Just dull streets and the odd chancer offering drugs.

Imissmoominmama · 22/04/2022 13:32

I love walking in nature. I’m lucky that I live in the countryside, so it’s right on my doorstep. I love watching the dogs running, and feeling rocks/grass… even water, under my feet. I love the sound of the birds; the blossom; the sun; funky trees…

Off out for a walk now

Even in and close to London, it's astonishing how much woodland and open country can be found. My husband and I started walking the London Loop route in stages before lockdown and have finally resumed it now. We did a stretch recently from Kingston to Hatton Cross, which involved walking through Bushy Park. Phenomenal! Huge, huge Royal Park, seemed endless, loved seeing the many deer roaming around or grazing. Even the stretch of the walk near Heathrow was good, in spite of the constant roar of planes taking off nearby. Lovely woodland walks along the River Crane. Looking forward to the next bit!
