Laundry detergent-pods,liquid or powder?

Which do you use? I buy pods but trying to save money.
Is it more cost effective to buy liquid or powder nowadays?
At least with pods you know it's the actual amount of washes you get.

@AlwaysLatte

Pods as less messy
Unless you are really clumsy why would powder be messy? Confused
Bedsheets4knickers · 16/04/2022 14:23

I buy tesco own brand detergent and softener . I water both down 50/50 . Never had any problems

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 16/04/2022 15:37

I use pods mainly. Tried the laundry sheets and my washing wasn’t coming out clean, things like knickers weren’t coming out clean so having to re wash. So I’ll be sticking to pods, I like bold and smol

Sheets are for the dryer aren't they?

@BertieBotts

Sheets are for the dryer aren't they?

Apparently they do laundry sheets too. Who knew!

dementedpixie · 18/04/2022 07:15

I have seen washing sheets advertised on fb

Powder. Bio for whites, none bio for darks and colours. It is difficult to buy bio powder in my small town so I stock up when we in a nearer bigger city.

dementedpixie · 18/04/2022 08:03

Why do you use non bio powder for darks/colours?non bio and bio both contain bleaches; non bio has no enzymes that break down organic stains

reluctantbrit · 18/04/2022 08:39

Liquid. We had terrible problems with powder. Regardless how much I used I always had residues in the drawer and streaks on clothing.

Liquid goes straight into the drum, you can measure it according to how full your drum is, how dirty your clothes are and how hard the water.

PhileasPhilby · 18/04/2022 09:06

Powder because I found with liquid it made the washing machine smell mouldy / damp over time. It doesn’t with powder.

DoraSpenlow · 18/04/2022 09:33

Liquid. We had to get someone out to unblock our drains. They were almost totally blocked by washing powder and the guy had to chip it all out. He said that with people using lower temperatures it doesn't dissolve the powder correctly which then combines with any grease which then goes solid. Couldn't believe how much he removed.

ifonly4 · 18/04/2022 09:39

I stopped using powder years ago as I'd often find powder marks on clothes. Anyone know what I was doing wrong? I don't think I'd overloaded the machine, so could it be I often put clothes on for an hours wash and it doesn't dissolve/rinse?

I generally use liquid, sometimes pods, but interested in saving money.

MsMiaWallace · 18/04/2022 15:10

Same ^^ I kept getting powder marks on clothes too

You were probably using too much powder. You need a lot less than you think

PickAChew · 18/04/2022 15:31

Powder. Pods are so wasteful and they (and liquids) can contribute to gunking up your machine.

Topseyt · 18/04/2022 15:41

I much prefer powder. Aldi Allmat usually (bio) and find it as good as any.

Pods were awful. I tried and felt that they were definitely gunking up the machine. It was going a little whiffy so I stopped. Had to run washing machine cleaner through it several times to get rid of that. Won't be trying them again.

APurpleSquirrel · 18/04/2022 15:42

I use Ecover liquid, but might switch to powder for whites.

Labracadabradoodle · 18/04/2022 15:44

Another vote for washing nuts.

@ifonly4 Probably too much powder, rather than the machine being overloaded. Modern washing machines use much less water, but detergent manufacturers still recommend large powder dosages (like 150-200g for an 8kg+ machine) so the powder may not be fully dissolving.

I use one pink vanish scoop, which washes fine. It holds ~45g of powder. I can go up to about a scoop and a half max for a stained load. Any more than that and the machine gets too sudsy, and the cycle pauses until the bubbles have dissipated.

PickAChew · 18/04/2022 18:00

Yes, I use daz and usually up to half of an ikea plastic cup. Only more if I'm washing something disgusting with a pre-wash.

For colours that benefit from a more gentle wash (mostly my stuff), I use method liquid. Always do a long snd/or hot wash every few machine loads.

TheWatersofMarch · 18/04/2022 18:06

I'm back on powder after 2 decades with liquid. It cleans much better, even non Bio copes with teen boy sweat at 40. I'm only using good brands though (Persil, fairy).
