Laundry detergent-pods,liquid or powder?

Which do you use? I buy pods but trying to save money.
Is it more cost effective to buy liquid or powder nowadays?
At least with pods you know it's the actual amount of washes you get.

Another vote for powder!

CaptainHammer · 14/04/2022 19:14

Powder. You don’t need to use as much as it says on the side of the box so it lasts a lot longer

Lacedwithgrace · 14/04/2022 19:51

Powder at 40 for everything. I use scented liquid on things like bedding, jackets, scarves, etc as I prefer the clean smell to last longer

Powder is superior in every way except convenience but even that is so very slight it barely matters.

I use powder and liquid not together so powder for whites and bedding , towels etc and liquid for my brights and darks .
Both you can adjust amount easily and use less if small wash

can you put powder straight in the drum like you do with gel? My powder drawer doesn't work.

Caspianberg · 14/04/2022 20:02

Powder. I buy the large Ariel/ persil 100/120 wash boxes. Even with holiday let laundry it lasts forever. Think it was €15 a box last time

Use for Ds nappies and they are all still white white after 2 years.

Floydthebarber · 14/04/2022 20:03

Powder. I have basic liquid for delicate things and some dark jumpers and stuff. We have soft water and the pods are too much, the powder tablet things never dissolved so I've been using powder and liquid for years. Powder definitely the most cost effective too.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 14/04/2022 20:05

Powder. I do have a liquid silk and wool wash liquid for special things.

I do - I have a little plastic tub like a dosing ball and put it on top of the clothes. The packet says not to but I’ve been doing this for decades with no ill effects.
weegiemum · 14/04/2022 20:20

I use pods but that's cos I'm disabled and my hands are numb and tremble, so I spill powder and liquid. Pods so much easier to pop in the machine for me!

Cillmantain · 14/04/2022 20:24

Powder.
I use half the recommended amount.I live in a soft water area.

Okeydoky · 14/04/2022 20:27

@JimMorrisonsleathertrousers Bio-D laundry powder is eco-friendly and works well with coloureds. I buy it in bulk and a little goes a really long way.

yes. I put it directly into drum as well. no more manky drawer.
lochmaree · 14/04/2022 20:43

We use Daz powder - according to the clean cloth nappies website who do various laundry testing etc, it's one of the best budget powders.

GuyFawkesDay · 14/04/2022 20:46

Powder but I have had to buy a tub for it after a minor water leak caused a wet box and massive powder spillage!

100problems · 14/04/2022 20:46

I switched to powder. Straight into the machine in a little plastic cup.

Powder is cheaper, comes in a cardboard box, and lasts for absolutely weeks.

MackenCheese · 14/04/2022 20:55

So I wonder why powder is getting harder to find, if there is clearly a demand for it?

A580Hojas · 14/04/2022 21:00

I just put a scoop of powder in the drum and the clothes on top. Works fine for me.

Thank you, I shall take a look!

Liquid, I found powder wouldn't always dissolve and it would bleach the clothes where it got caught in the folds. Always Biological. I've never used pods, they're too expensive and you can't choose how much you use effectively.

Blush21 · 14/04/2022 21:28

Powder for whites and lights if they need it otherwise liquid for everything else!

thenightsky · 14/04/2022 21:29

Powder or liquid... never pods. We have a water softener so I reduce the amount by half, which I could not do with pods.

sophienelisse · 14/04/2022 21:30

I use powder. As far as I know you can't add bleaching agents to liquid. This may have changed.

But I use powder. It's more economical in that you can measure. Plus if your in a soft water area you need less. You can't measure a dose with a capsule etc like you can with powder.

Eco nuts for us. Still have a vanish pink powder for any strong stains. Works out very cheap and effective. Suits daughter with eczema. Get it from Amazon and it lasts ages. 300 washes for £12- £14.
