Laundry detergent-pods,liquid or powder?

Which do you use? I buy pods but trying to save money.
Is it more cost effective to buy liquid or powder nowadays?
At least with pods you know it's the actual amount of washes you get.

Powder - you can measure how much you need depending on your water hardness and size of wash. Less likely to cause mould forming in your machine too.

FourTeaFallOut · 14/04/2022 18:00

Powder, it's more cost effective and better for sensitive skin - and I object to them manufacturing pods to look so appealling to children they have to spurge their entire advertising budget reminding people to keep them away from kids, ridiculous.

Always powder. It's cheaper, cleans better and doesn't clog up the machine.

An engineer who came to repair my washer said that pods are the worst thing as they clog up the pipes far more quickly.
He said powder was the best.

TerribleCustomerCervix · 14/04/2022 18:14

Powder for whites/ lights and liquid for colours and darks.

Norgie · 14/04/2022 18:14

None. I use washing nuts.

JimMorrisonsleathertrousers · 14/04/2022 18:15

I must admit I do love pods. But I think powder is the most economical.

I do however have trouble finding powder that is a) suitable for colours (as most of them contain oxy bleaching agents) and b) is ecologically friendly.

A580Hojas · 14/04/2022 18:17

Always powder for me, but am now thinking of switching to Earth Breeze sheets when my current stock is used up. Powder is better because it comes in a degradable cardboard box rather than the plastic of liquid or pods. And also it is better for your washing machine.

FourTeaFallOut · 14/04/2022 18:18

Are washing nuts soap shaped like nuts or nuts that act in place of soap?

withiceplease · 14/04/2022 18:21

Powder
And use less than it says - I use about 60% of what is recommended and never had a problem (I wash at 40 though not 30)

SirChenjins · 14/04/2022 18:22

Powder - cheaper, more eco friendly, better for the machine

purplesequins · 14/04/2022 18:30

powder - for the reason pp describe.

liquid for sports clothes.
shampoo for wollens and silk.

Thetimesarechanging · 14/04/2022 18:37

Liquid is best, after having my arm shoulder deep in the outside drain clearing the third powder block I'd never use it again.

Think about it, the liquid is already in the form it needs to be in to be used. The powder has to be dissolved into the washing water, the pods are rubbish and often don't break down on shorter/cooler washes.

minniep · 14/04/2022 18:38

I much prefer powder

Knockoneofftheshelftowin · 14/04/2022 18:38

Powder. I use 3x level tablespoons in each wash.

Favouritefruits · 14/04/2022 18:41

Gel, the stuff you put in the lid and straight into the drum. I love overloading the amount and have fabulous smelling washing.

WeAllHaveWings · 14/04/2022 18:42

We switched to a liquid when ds(18) was a baby thinking it would be kinder for his skin. Within a few months the machine smelt terrible and I couldn't shift it. Switched back to power and never had that problem again.

roses2 · 14/04/2022 18:44

Powder but it's getting harder to find. My local Aldi haven't had powder for several months now! I had to order my last box from Amazon.

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 14/04/2022 18:47

Whatever's on offer between powder and liquid. I don't really notice a difference tbh - we just use Tesco own brand stuff.

dementedpixie · 14/04/2022 18:53

Bio Powder mostly. Can adjust dosage to suit the size of load. My clothes got marks on them when I used liquid

SmallestInTheClass · 14/04/2022 18:53

Powder, better for your machine and plastic free packaging. I live in a soft water area and use half of the recommended soft water dose. If stuff is really dirty or smelly I put a tablespoon of napisan in with it, good for stains and fine on sensitive skin.

AnyCakeButBattenburg · 14/04/2022 18:58

I use powder. My son (38) has Eczema and uses laundry sheet things from Ecover

TabithaTittlemouse · 14/04/2022 19:00

I prefer pods but stupid Dh gets a rash so we use powder.

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 14/04/2022 19:01

Powder, pods made my washer stink and left a grim film in the pipes, horrid things. Never have issues with powder.

Svara · 14/04/2022 19:09

Powder. Box says 40 washes but I worked out based on what I use (two level scoops with stain remover scoop) it will last for 52, so 6 months. £3, so 50p a month.
