Help! I need to find a replacement lovey!

My DD has had a lovey since she was about 3 months old (now 4) and it’s been slowly loved to death. Several surgeries have taken place over the years but today lovey lost her arm stuffing and it’s tipped DD over the edge, she’s really upset! I’ve searched over the years for a just in case replacement but failed. This is a bedtime only lovey now, doesn’t leave her bedroom much as she knows it’s delicate, it doesn’t get dragged about often.
Is it possible to transfer a lovey over to a different kind? Has anyone successfully made the switch? Any words of advice or things I can say would be very welcome!

Can you show us a photo in case one of us has a replacement hiding in a wardrobe somewhere?

Fernsinthegarden · 14/04/2022 16:47

This is what lovey looked like when new, now resembles Skelator 😂 bloody jersey fabric, falls apart when I stitch it up to!
That would be amazing, I’d probably pay through the nose too 🤦‍♀️😂 eBay only brings up one in the states which isn’t too helpful.

This ships from France, I have family over there so I can get it for you if they don't ship directly to uk! Smile

sellingupslow · 14/04/2022 17:04

Oh sorry just realised second one is out of stock 🥺

Maybe if your DD is aware the arm has come off you could repair it with a different looking arm. Good time for a conversation about people with false limbs etc?

Nelliephant1 · 14/04/2022 17:21

Sorry if I'm being thick but can't you restuff the arm with kapok?

Fernsinthegarden · 14/04/2022 17:30

I’ve kept the stuffing that came out so I can repair it but it’s more a case that lovey isn’t going to be able to repaired much longer.
I’ve added a pic so you can see the extent of the loving 🤦‍♀️😂 this pic was pre arm deflation.
@sellingupslow I’ll have a look at your links, that would be amazing if so, thank you for checking!

If all fails, has anyone successfully managed to get their kid to adore another stuffed toy as much as an original? I’m preparing for all outcomes!

Thank you again to everyone who’s posted, really appreciate it 😊

Oh my 😂

NeverSayNeverAgainMaybe · 14/04/2022 17:44

Could lovey have a 'sister' come to stay? Something similar to the original, but they need to be together all the time because they're sisters and see if the sister gets adopted?

C25kBecky · 14/04/2022 17:44

I hope you find one op 🤞

Hope90x · 14/04/2022 18:03

Might not be the most helpful but if you can find something even remotely similar that you can pass off as a "lovey makeover", two of my friends have had great success with 'writing to elves" for a repair..... Think the story book/cartoon about the elves and the shoemaker ... Who repaired lovey and made it even better "overnight"

Similar Cinderella-style fairy godmother story also worked for another. I know every child is different but it might be worth a try?

Fernsinthegarden · 14/04/2022 19:07

Love these ideas, thank you all 😊
@C25kBecky I know 😂🤦‍♀️ Good job I added a pic really, description couldn’t do it justice!

Ok bear with me here I know this is a rabbit but....

with a baby hat tied at the corners, baby Grey t shirt and some pink socks. Could get all these tiny baby sized from supermarket etx.

Would that work?

Yep definitely tell her that it's going to doll hospital to get its arm fixed, and replace with the one linked up thread.

And probably buy two new ones so you're got one in reserve Grin

TheMoreYouKnow · 14/04/2022 20:27

Alternatively see if you can find someone who can make something very similar?

Okeydoky · 14/04/2022 20:38

The biggest challenge in getting it accepted is that it will smell wrong. When you get a replacement wash it in the machine with a teeny bit of your normal washing powder, then whack it in a sealed back with her dirty sheets for at least a week to help transfer her smell onto it. 1

See if they have any left in the stockroom somewhere.

NuffSaidSam · 14/04/2022 20:45

I'd go for something completely different (but similar feel) and introduce it as an addition to bedtime and see if you can slowly transition over. I'd try and explain that Lovey is getting to old to be cuddled at bedtime but she can cuddle new lovey and old Lovey will sit next to the bed/end of the bed instead.

I think a completely different might be better accepted than a new, similar one at this age, but as pp said depends on the child.

GrapesThatThrive · 14/04/2022 20:50

Fuck that's terrifying! 😂

ChiaraRimini · 14/04/2022 21:16

That thing is the stuff of nightmares OP. I'd be more worried about it coming to life and killing you all, personally. I'd replace it with a not cursed version and get the house exorcised.
