We are flying to Cyprus in a week.
Our flight is at 10.40 am and we are staying at the airport hotel.
We have checked in online.
What time would you get to airport for?
It's Newcastle airport
Haven't flown in years so unsure

We flew from Gatwick last week, EasyJet adviced 2.5hours prior to departure. Queues were ok, we discovered we had speedy boarding booked, so managed to get in a short queue.

I wouldn't go until the time bag drop opens or just a bit earlier, otherwise you stand a lot as most departure halls don't have lots of seating available.

I like to allow 3 hours before a flight, DP would want to allow about 7 hours before a flight. We usually compromise and allow 4 hours, which is always, predictably, an hour too much Grin

DH is always consumed with anxiety and gets very stressed about being late. I am much more laid back and have barely arrived on time on several occasions.

We compromise now and are there a minimum of three hours before our flight leaves (short haul) DH is not stressed, he placates me with food and / or alcohol and indulges my Flight Radar fascination for a couple of hours.

I'd still prefer to arrive later, but overall it's better for both of our blood pressure's Grin

I flew from Newcastle on Monday and it was a breeze. Airport was nearly empty. For me, 2hoirs was plenty of time.

They charge 1£ for the liquid security bags though! Out of a vending machine, I was irrationally upset about that Grin

We are at Heathrow 4 hours before flight and bag drop not open until 2 hours before, lots of people just sitting around with bags. DP would have been here even earlier! 4 hours OTT.

If fil had his way we would arrive at the airport the night before but we will be there three hours before

iseeyou1234 · 15/04/2022 06:29

I would get there between 08:30 and 09:00 - have a great holiday!

I’m in the 2 hour camp.
Unless we are BA, in which case we use their lounge for a massive lunch and lots of wine.

However it’s the unpredictability of time needed getting to the airport that’s the issue. Although even in heavy traffic and arriving a bit later (had to go straight to boarding lounge) I’ve never not comfortably made a flight.

lightisnotwhite · 15/04/2022 06:35

Just seen you will be at the airport. I’d get there for 9. You’re literally only going through security and bag check. That still leaves tons of time to find ( wait for) the departure gate.

A minimum of 3 hours before the flight.

knittingaddict · 15/04/2022 06:47

My husband is a 3 hour before the flight man too, but nearly missed a flight due to an accident on the motorway. I always add on extra time for transport issues.

Nillynally · 15/04/2022 06:59

I'd be camped up in the airport Wetherspoons approximately 3 days before if I could... 😂 the thought of missing a flight is my worst nightmare! No help here sorry- early!
