Kinder recall- they want to send me a voucher to replace the egg rather than refund me?

I bought the Justice League Kinder Easter egg for £5.50 from Sainsburys about a month ago for DS then it was obviously recalled so I can’t give him it and had to buy him a different one. I emailed Ferrero to ask for a refund because news articles claim they will send you a refund. They’ve just replied informing me they’ll send a gift voucher so I can buy a new Kinder Easter egg? I obviously can’t because they have all been recalled, I haven’t seen any Kinder eggs at all in any shop since the recall. Has anyone else asked for a refund and had any success? The gift voucher option doesn’t even make sense.

Aren't you supposed to return it to the retailer for refund

HotToddyColdSauvignon · 13/04/2022 15:43

Would you claim the refund back from sainsburys?

Tillerman · 13/04/2022 15:44

News articles regarding the recall say you should contact Ferrero for a refund.

They're not even responding to me yet. I emailed 72 hours ago.

Sainsburys will refund you if you paid by card and can provide proof of the transaction because they keep receipt records for 6 months apparently.

They're specifically asking people to contact them direct

Although googling suggests emailing or phoning them. How strange

I did pay by card but don’t have the receipt, suppose I could show them my bank statement or something? I didn’t just buy that though so not sure how it would work. Baffling they offered a gift voucher to buy a new egg when the eggs aren’t being sold!

If you have a nectar card they can confirm the transaction using that.

Yeah i contacted sainsburys customer service and if you show them the transaction they'll match the date, time and value and probably the last 4 digits of your card number to your receipt in their system
