Turkey - worth going for a wander around Antalya?

Heythere13 · 13/04/2022 13:21

This holiday is about luxury R&R. So very happy to be resort focussed given it looks sensational.

However just wondering if Antalya may be worth a morning’s wander as we are only 20 mins or so from it

But don’t want to waste any time on holiday if actually… uninspiring town and not worth the trip

TIA

Yes, there are the ruins which are always worth a visit.
Whereabouts in Antalya are you?

adriftabroad · 13/04/2022 13:46

Personally I didn't like it.

This was 20 years ago and I was young, blonde and pretty though.

I prefer Side, the town is lovely - some fabulous waterfront Cafes and ruins to see - It's only a bus ride away from Lara beach area

How long is the journey please?

We like a stroll around a harbour, maybe popping in to a few tourist shops, coffee and cake.

So not high culture or indeed expectation

Would it deliver on this front?

I'd check the Antalya trip advisor forum. Lots of info there. Laura Beach is amazing and can't wait till we return

Heythere13 · 13/04/2022 14:43

Thanks

Is Laura beach same as Lara Beach?

Did you do any trips whilst out there?

Yes, it would deliver on that front.
Get on the bus, it's not expensive and have a wander round.

Polkadotties · 13/04/2022 15:23

I would also recommend having a wonder round Antalya and also Side. Side is further away but worth it

Norgie · 13/04/2022 15:48

Side is beautiful. If you get off the bus in the bus terminal, you can enjoy the ruins while strolling to the harbour.
Look out for the young boy and his camel as you get off the bus. He will take your picture with it for a donation.

Heythere13 · 13/04/2022 16:57

Will only do one.

Antalya for pure convenience (travelling with tweens)
Or Side for… well what “extra” and how far?

Thank you all btw

Antalya is more touristy, cheap shops selling fakes. Side has slightly nicer shops also selling fakes, but is a much more pleasant town to walk round. Lovely bars, nice cafes along the front and thr ruins are worth seeing. Worth the extra distance to go to Side imo.

CustardGoodJamGoodMeatGood · 13/04/2022 18:36

Antalya is lovely, there's a bus that goes on the front of Lara Beach straight to the old town with the ruins and harbour, a few lovely restaurants overlooking the sea

Heythere13 · 13/04/2022 18:52

Ok made a plan! Antalya and also the lower dudan falls

What about the cable car?

OP posts:
70sDuvet · 14/04/2022 16:21

Antalya has (had?) A big market, both fakes and a lovely less touristy market of local products and fresh food, they were in the same area but separated. It wasn't on every day but I think possibly Thursday and Sunday.

Side is gorgeous, it had some Greek architecture, a ruined temple, an amitheatre and a beautiful harbour. more European than UK visitors.

Heythere13 · 15/04/2022 08:51

Upper Duden falls or lower if only got time for one?

Cable car worth going to?

Good to hear mentions of Lara Beach. Going in two weeks. Heard it was amazing before the refit. It opens on 22nd.

Polkadotties · 15/04/2022 18:50

Lara beach is a place not a hotel.

Dodgyormymind · 15/04/2022 19:15

@Polkadotties oops is Lara Barut we are going to.

Ahh enjoy. I have been there countless times :)

Optimisiticcautiouslyso · 16/04/2022 07:49

@Polkadotties

Would love some recommendations for the area!

Upper Duden falls worth a visit?
What other hotels have you stayed in? Heard of Delphin be grande?
Cable car?
How much a taxi to the old town?

Thanks (and sorry for the Spanish Inquisition!)

Polkadotties · 16/04/2022 12:53

I’m one of those people that MN’s hate. Those who go to an inclusive and barely leave the hotel Grin
