Worrying lesion on breast. Cant get gp appointment, what are my options?

Just noticed a worrying lesion on the underside of my right breast. About the size of a 5p. Called GP and they say they have nothing for me, to present to a&e. I am dealing with a huge amount of shit right now i need a day in a&e like a hole in the head. Do i have any other options to be seen today or tomorrow? I am happy to throw money at it.

I'd go to A&E. Hopefully it won't be too busy.
It's very poor of your GP surgery to suggest it, though, as they should have offered you an appointment - but that's a complaint for another day.

SweetSakura · 13/04/2022 09:54

I'd go to a and e if you have to. But really I would first get very pushy with the GP! I expect the GP would want to see you and the receptionist is incorrect to say they cant

Namaste6 · 13/04/2022 09:59

I would go to a&e. You might get lucky and not have to wait too long. Above all though, health over everything else. Wishing you well.

Just go to a and e and explain your gp has sent you

InRoseBlush · 13/04/2022 10:05

Go to A&E, it might not be too busy. Also, tell them you're presenting because you were refused a GP appointment and told to go to a&e. I work on reception at an emergency department and our doctors and nurses have started phoning to complain to GP surgeries when they have told patients to come to us for things they should be seeing as it's been happening far too often. It's usually the case that the receptionist has wrongly turned them away and told them to come to us.

Keithlovessmash · 13/04/2022 10:07

Do you have health insurance though work or though spouses work ? I know so many people that just forget about it in situations like this. If so call them you don’t need a referral for breast issues.

If not, I’d go to A&E. They won’t be happy with the GP but they will see you.

Wishihadanalgorithm · 13/04/2022 10:14

I would call the GP surgery back and request you speak to the practice manager or the next person down if they are unavailable. This is unacceptable. They should prioritise your case.

If you still have no joy, I suggest going to A &E and explaining that your GP has sent you.

I had my own post about inability to see the GP a few weeks ago. I don’t know what the answer is but OP I wish you well with this situation.

DrunkenKoala · 13/04/2022 10:15

Go to A+E. I had a situation a few years ago where I was bleeding in early pregnancy and needed to be referred by GP for appointment at EPU, but couldn’t get an appointment with GP so went to A+E who were brilliant and I only waited a couple of hours and they referred me.

Good luck x.

newbiename · 13/04/2022 10:17

I suggest calling to speak to the practice manager. Not good enough from your GP.
There were 84 people in my AE at 7.30 yesterday with a nine hour wait to be seen.

BenCooperisaGod · 13/04/2022 10:20

Thanks vipers. GP receptionist hung up on me. Went to 111 who got me an appointment with my own gp tomorrow... The system is so totally fucked right now.

If you are happy to pay, look up private GPs in your area. I saw one who charged me £90, but was very thorough at the appointment and I was happy getting an appointment on time and worth the money to get reassurance what I had wasn’t anything that needed further investigation.

MissyB1 · 13/04/2022 10:21

That’s unacceptable from the GP surgery, who made the decision? Was it really a GP or the receptionist? If you go to A&E make sure you take some kind of evidence that the surgery referred you there - so a name of a GP.
Phone the surgery back and ask for this.

linerforlife · 13/04/2022 10:22

You can also use an app called waitless (I think) to check how long the waits are in A&Es near you. They update in near real time. So you could drive 20mins further away but know you'll only be waiting 30 mins to be triaged Smile Good luck OP

Matchingcollarandcuffs · 13/04/2022 10:24

in future you can get private GP spots for less tgan £100 in person in London, cheaper if you sign up for video consults like Livi or Babylon.

Also if you have private health insurance church of you get Private GP included.

Glad you got an appt though

A day in A&E to get the all clear, or worst case, a treatment plan in place, will prevent a lot more days in hospital if you don't go now.

emma123456 · 13/04/2022 10:39

What about push doctor - it’s about £25 for a video appt.

BarbaraofSeville · 13/04/2022 11:21

I'm hearing a lot of adverts for Livi at the moment.

It says it's a free online NHS appointment. But if your GP doesn't have appointments available, can you sign up to another practice it's not like that everywhere.
