Deleted file off network drive - please tell me IT can restore it

OMG I think I’ve just caused a big problem at my work, last day is Thursday so have been tidying all my files to make sure they are in good shape on my departure. Have accidentally deleted a folder off the shared drive that one of my colleagues is now looking for 😱.

I have raised a ticket with our IT department to restore the folder but omg I am feeling like an absolute idiot. No good deed goes unpunished.I should have just left it all in a bit of a mess and not touched anything.

Please tell me that the IT peeps will be able to recover the folder?!?

In my experience their first question will be is your device backed up? There may be an automatic process where it backs up every few days for example, but I'm no expert so I'm sure someone else with more insight will come along soon..

Yes it will be backed up. And if you have managed to delete a folder off a shared drive then IT hadn’t set up security very well - so not your fault

They should be able to restore it from a backup. They should be doing regular backups, if you have an IT dept, I'm sure they are. It would be part of their job.

Might be a stupid question, as I'm not an IT expert, but have you searched in your recycling bin folder?

Not sure if helpful as it was on shared drive but worth a try?

They should back up the network regularly. Ours is backed up every night. I’m sure they will be able to retrieve it.

Is it a network drive or sharepoint in office 365?

If it's sharepoint you can possibly fix it yourself, if it's a network drive they should have a back up they can restore, may only be up to date as of yesterday so could have lost anything done today.

I once deleted an important file - it was an accident and IT man found it.

Once someone deleted my file on shared drive. Noticed 3 months later and he still found it.

On the off chance that it's Sharepoint you use then just navigate to the folder location, click on the 'i' in the task bar you should be able to see something that says you deleted a folder, it will give you the option to recover it.

Yeah mine can and do!

I’ve done it before but with a document no one used so it just slipped under the radar and 4 years on no one has noticed…

It will depend if your server gets backed up but it should be if it's a shared drive. Although we once discovered that ours hadn't been working for weeks when someone requested something to be restored.....
