It was actually huge, like maybe 2cm!

I've never seen anything like to, what type of insect is it?!?!

Absolute meltdown from me 🙈

I don’t know what it is, but I had one in my house a few years ago and it totally freaked me out too. I’ve never seen another. Watching your thread hoping someone knows.

Fraaahnces · 12/04/2022 22:14

It’s a beetle

Wednesdayafternoon · 12/04/2022 22:14

I'm still cringing over it 🙈
I am not good with insects at all!

It looks like a Pimpla rufipes from what I can see online but it doesn't have orange legs 🤷🏼‍♀️

Had one in the house before. I thought it was some type of wasp, but not sure.

FunkyPhantom · 12/04/2022 22:18

Could be a sabre wasp, that's what I've found via Google 😆😆👍

LazyYogi · 12/04/2022 22:18

I think I'd call that an earwig, is it not?

Fraaahnces · 12/04/2022 22:19

Sorry… I thought it was a leg. Forgive me. I’m Australian and don’t really get in a flap about bugs.

Searched through google lens and it came up with an Echthrus reluctator, a type of wasp. 😖

FunkyPhantom · 12/04/2022 22:23

Here's a Google image of another sabre wasp

That's not whats in OP's pic [confused
Hawkmoth · 12/04/2022 22:29

It's an ichneumon wasp. Probably can't ID without a microscope. The bit on the end is an ovipositor, not a sting. Unless you are rotting wood or a caterpillar you are completely safe.

bloodywhitecat · 12/04/2022 22:31

It's not an earwig

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 12/04/2022 22:33

It's not a sting, it's the egg laying tube.

TulipsGarden · 12/04/2022 22:35

It's a bug of some kind. It's not going to hurt you, we don't have dangerous insects in this country. It's definitely not an earwig. Just leave it alone or put it outside where it will be happier.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 12/04/2022 22:35

Its an ovipositor. It's how they lay eggs. A sting is an adapted ovipositor.

Don't worry about it.

Love it when everyone is flapping around panicking then someone swoops in and slaps the answer down on the table.
Dancer47 · 12/04/2022 22:54

it's a harmless beetle and NO it is not a sting

Suzi888 · 12/04/2022 22:56

Feeling itchy…. No idea what the little sucker is sorry.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 12/04/2022 23:23

It's not an earwig.

ThreeLocusts · 12/04/2022 23:23

Erm, I think it's rather pretty. The v-shape the antennae make, the slender body, the straight line at the back end.

I'll get my coat.

Neverendingdust · 12/04/2022 23:48

Vile things aren’t they. I thought I’d accidentally opened a portal to another hellish dimension when one appeared in our home. That long…thing… on the end.
