Hi All

I have an evening wedding reception to go to in a few weeks and I have nothing to wear. I have put on quite a bit of weight over the last few years and although I am trying to lose it I am currently a size 16/18, 5ft 3in with big boobs. I feel like I have no shape or waist at all and look terrible. I cannot find anything that will look remotely ok on me and the others who I know at the wedding are all really slim and stylish, I feel like saying I can't go but would feel terrible to do that to my friend who is getting married.

Does anyone have any suggestions for something that might suit me or is there anyone of a similar size that has see a lovely dress that would be suitable?

xx

Hi op,I'd ask to move this to the style and beauty board as they are amazing with stuff like this! I asked a similar question a few years ago and got so many suggestions - it put me on to a few companies I hadn't heard of too.

Do you have a John Lewis anywhere near you? I had a styling session at one and had a gem of a woman. It was really useful. If you're looking for one item for a specific event, I'd imagine it could be even better. They do also do online sessions if that could work. All free, but they may end up costing you money by finding you really nice stuff you can't not buy...

Phase Eight are brilliant if you have an ample frontage and your waist has gone walkies. Excellent cuts for that figure (mine!) and some very flattering fabrics, also I'm two sizes "smaller" in there than any other high street shop so that's a nice little psychological boost Grin

Thanks for the replies - I had posted in the style and beauty board a few weeks ago but didn't get many replies and now I'm getting desperate! I have looked at Phase 8 and I don't think much jumped out but I will have another look.

I don't have a John Lewis near me but will look online - the trouble is I see thinks online but have no idea what things will look like half the time and if I order lots to try that's a lot of returning but I don't have many shops near me..

Have 0you looked for a stylist in your local area? There are some that will do personal shopping trips for or with you. Might be worth looking into. Facebook might be a good start or Instagram.

I agree with the recommendation for a personal shopper / stylist. I know you say you don't have a JL near you, but how far is the nearest one? If you can get to one within an hour or so, it would be so worth the trip.

I had a session a few weeks ago and honestly, its revolutionised how I dress. She brought in a rail of clothes that looked awful (in my head I was thinking what a waste of time this is) but she got me to reluctantly try them on and I was amazed at how much better I looked in certain shapes. I've now bought a ton of stuff off Vinted and the like, just because I'm much more confident in what shapes / colours I should be looking for. I haven't lost any weight but feel a hundred times better and much more confident.

Thanks for the suggestions - I have been in touch with a couple of people but they haven't got back to me yet.

xx
