Crazy Ukraine refugee situation

This makes my blood boil.

We are sponsoring a couple of refugees to come stay with us. A Mum and daughter(18). We applied for their VISAs on the 23rd but so far have no news. Our MP even cannot get any information except they are 'in the system'. They are currently staying in a single room hotel, slowly burning through their cash.

On the other hand, they have a little dog who is their only 'possession' who is now residing at a UK quarantine site here in the UK! The dog got here first.

How is it I can get a dog into the country within 9 days but not their owners, whose house was shelled by the invaders?

Bloody ridiculous! Are you in contact with other local sponsor families to see if you could collectively raise as an issue?

I feel I've done all I can - MPs, helplines etc. Would be good if one of the nationals took this up.

The system is a total mess. You submit your applications and then just have to wait, and wait and wait. No clue as to how close you are to them making a decision. No confirmation the documents are in order, nothing.

I guess the dog is unlikely to be a terrorist or spy - if in fact that is what the home office are checking for all this to be taking so long. Sadly it seems it’s just sheer bungling incompetency on the part of our Home Secretary.

Great thing you’re doing. Out of interest did you know the family previously?

Sadly no. Poor people have been through such a lot. The second time they've been made refugees in 5 years. They were in the Donbas region when the last war broke out.

All they have is a suitcase and a dog.

Dunno, gave me a funny look when I met her.
