John Lewis customer service

I am so dissatisfied with John Lewis customer service. They really seem to have gone downhill for a while now and after several attempts to resolve an issue via email they respond with a generic reply as though they can’t be bothered to even read what I have written.
Does anyone know the best way to contact them who can actually answer my query? Phoning doesn’t work, previous agent I spoke to was unhelpful and rude.
Caution to anyone who thinks paying more for an item and expecting John Lewis to provide good customer service incase something goes wrong don’t bother.

There have been many threads on this on MN over recent years. agreeing with you OP. They have a shit reputation now, which seems so bewildering after they were the leading "bees' knees" in customer service.

Wouldn't touch them with a barge pole now.

Another one here agreeing with you. We use AO, Argos or the brand directly now for appliances and just about any other shop for anything else. All this hand wringing about why they aren’t making any money. It’s because they are still charging a premium for a service that doesn’t exist anymore. Adding in champagne bars and getting rid of haberdashery isn’t going to solve it. (I may be particularly bitter about the haberdashery thing).

Thanks for all your replies, guess it’s not just me. How can they expect to compete with major retailers, charge a premium but fall short in their aftercare. I tried Twitter but received no response there either…any other suggestions?
A big fat thumbs down to John Lewis.
