I don't understand all the stuff about reading the room

And not demonstrating your good fortune whist others are struggling financially.

Some people are finding things really tough atm and that's awful, a disgrace that so many need food banks in modern Britain, but others spending ostentatiously doesn't change that. We need those who are able to to spend for the benefit of the economy, jobs, tax revenues.

It's sad that not everyone can have a luxury lifestyle, but those who can (I'm not one BTW!) are doing more good than harm by having one.

It’s fine to spend, but in poor taste to brag about over social media if you know that some of your friends are struggling.

People can have a luxury lifestyle without flashing it everywhere or looking down on others who don't. Privileged people also need to be aware that not everyone is n the same position and recognise that they are privileged. Too many people can't seem to do that. It's like the whole Molly Mae 'everyone has the same 24hrs' thing. A lot of people who are in the elite in terms of financial success have absolutely no idea how difficult it is for some people and it really shows. I think that's what upsets people the most.

It's terribly unBritish to brag, dahling. Being showy is not cool.

Nietzschethehiker · 11/04/2022 15:29

It's not about being showy, frankly I think you've misunderstood the issue. It's about the entitlement and arrogance that often comes with it.

Example A : person able to buy a new home and states that. Excellent good for them. Absolutely right it helps builders and property what not. Enjoy.

Example B : person able to buy a new home and comments either overtly or passive aggressively about how much of a better person they are for being able to do it and if everyone else knuckled down they could do it too without any recognition that lick plays a huge part. This is not reading the room. This is a good example of disgusting behaviour that kids themselves they are better than others.

Borderline: trying to create a personality defect when people who are struggling complain when b occurs by posing on sm implying that they should be grateful that others have the good fortune to keep the economy going so just accept fears and struggles and be quiet (hint: implication is in tone not words ) get the hint ?

"I can't afford to put petrol in the car to get to work, I don't know what to do"

"Get an electric bike"

Real one I've seen. People need to think.
