How much more weight to lose?

RipleysVest · 10/04/2022 23:31

Am 78lbs down.

Thought I would be happy now but still don't feel comfortable, although I do feel much better.

Am already getting the 'are you going to stop soon?' comments.

Its been so long since I've been anything but 'morbidly obese' that I just don't know what is healthy for me.

I don't want to go via numbers/scale, been a slave to that too long. Just how I feel.

From the pictures i would say maybe around a stone more would put you in the healthy range.

TheDuchessOfMN · 11/04/2022 16:03

You’re similar height to me, OP. Sorry to make you feel a little uncomfortable, but you’re large in the bust area - or will I come right out and say it… your boobs are big Grin so that will probably add quite a few pounds to your weight. For that reason, I wouldn’t take too much notice of what the scales say.

Also, I lost a lot of weight a few years ago, and it takes time for your weight to settle. It takes discipline to keep it off, BUT I’m guessing you were very strict to lose that much weight, so (imo) it’s just not realistic to remain that disciplined forever. You’ll find a balance and your weight will sort of stay at that weight, where you keep an eye on things but you get to live a little.

You look great anyway, well done 👍

I've not been strict at all Blush

I've probably been the worst of our group (they've all lost more)

I pretty much eat what I want in small portions. It's something I need to work on Blush

I'm also 5.5 and wanted to be 9.7 stone for YEARS. I got to 10.1 and had a tummy tuck and it turns out it was the tummy all along, I went back up to 10.8 and it didn't phase me one bit. Whereas before I just wanted to lose lose lose hoping they tummy would go. I see you've said you carry a lot around your tummy, do you think that might be why you want to go lower?

Not saying you're the same as me obviously, just a thought. Smile

Maybe but unfortunately a TT is not on the cards. I could do with it doing and a Breast lift but it's just not something I could ever afford I just have to focus on the fact my health is far better and I look much better clothed. Naked is something else completely Sad but ohh well!

What I mean is, do you think getting lower will make a lot of difference to how you feel? The problem I had was the more I lost the more gaunt I was looking but it wasn't coming off where I wanted it to lol.

User48751490 · 11/04/2022 16:27

I have only lost 4lbs in 8 weeks so well done OP. You look amazing. Be proud of what you have achieved so far and keep up the good work.

Aberration · 11/04/2022 16:37

I think when people see their friends go from larger to skinny they aren’t used to it so they can think someone is looking “to skinny” when actually they are just healthy, it’s just a dramatic change. My friend has lost half her body weight and she looks absolutely tiny to me but she’s actually at top end of normal size now.

So as an objective stranger- I say- if you wanted to lose more weight I think you could. I think you look larger but healthy at the moment and losing a stone would shove you right in healthy range. Which matches what your bmi says I think?

BMI is not gospel, but the people it doesn’t work on very well are either: very atheletic, very tall or very short. As you are none of those things I would say it’s a good rule of thumb for you!

A stone would take me bang on 25 BMI. So I think that is my base goal and I guess at that point I can reasses.

I think I still look quite large in my mid section but I've always been like that even pre pregnancies that's where my weight lay

Weight in your midsection is the most dangerous place to carry it. Have you measured your waist? It needs to be less than half of your height to not be classed as unhealthy.

Yes, I'm aware but it's just how I'm built 😂

I'll have to work that out

OP posts:
dipdye · 11/04/2022 17:21

If that was me, I'd knock another stone off.

I'm the same height as you, BTW

I agree. Might take a while though 😂

I think it depends on your age too.

You could lose a stone and be slim/thin, but your face will appear gaunt.

You could lose half a stone and not be as slim, but your face will look better.

That’s how it is for me anyway (after 35). There’s even a saying about choosing between your face or your arse 🤣

hilbil21 · 11/04/2022 18:10

@TheDuchessOfMN this is why I had to stop where I did. I'm 41 lol.

RipleysVest · 11/04/2022 18:20

My waist/height is just over so I definitely need to loose more.

How much more weight to lose?

Am 37 and definitely feel that but think I'm doing OK so far.

I think if you've been very overweight, aiming for and maintaining a generally healthier weight is preferable to aiming too low and not being able to maintain it. IYSWIM.

I always thought Scarlett Moffatt might have succeeded if she'd slimmed from a size 16 to a 12 for example, rather than all the way down to an 8 which was just unrealistic for her. And then she regained all the weight and it looks like quite a bit more besides.

Also - you look absolutely great now! Really shapely. Are you sure 78lb isn't enough?

As I've had a sleeve it would be physically impossible for me to go back to my old eating habits. I was a binge eater and my stomach is 85% smaller. I cannot physically binge eat anymore so I don't feel I'm in danger of regaining. I know it is possible for some people but my restriction is very good and I can only eat very small amounts

78lbs does sound alot but I was seriously obese.

I would say another 14lbs and then see how you feel.

Lacedwithgrace · 12/04/2022 19:54

You look great, congratulations! Maybe instead of focussing on losing more weight, you could use your exercise to tone your body more? If that's what you're interested in it might benefit you to see positive changes to your body that aren't necessarily linked to weight loss.

Thankyou. I definitely do need to tone up but I really think I need another stone or 2 gone first because of my stomach area Blush
