I'm just starting it..
I was traumatised by the Louis Theroux one..... Wondering if this is going to be just as bad ....

It is horrendous. Watched it yesterday morning and it sums up everything that is wrong with the British obsession with celebrity.

I followed it up with the rise and fall of John Leslie.

Obvs it hasn't been a barrel of laughs this weekend

It's awful. Didn't find out anything I hadn't heard before but the second part is bad. Actually wish I hadn't watched it.

Emerald4512 · 11/04/2022 00:26

It's pretty shocking in the second episode tbh.

sandgrown · 11/04/2022 00:28

Just watched the first episode and wondered how I never realised how creepy JS was !

RipleysVest · 11/04/2022 00:29

I don't think they covered a quarter of the stuff he supposedly did.
Some horrifically graphic descriptions in 2nd episode but I thought it was quite forgiving of him considering the absolute monster he was. I felt it concentrated on the charity work he did too much. No amount of money to good causes cancels out that evil. Hard to watch all the same. His face is nauseating.

Not sure I can watch it, will trigger me and madden me in equal measure.

I thought this was interesting - the first part - because I always thought the Establishment suffered him rather than actually liked him but it showed that he was completely embedded in the Royal Family Shock and Thatcher genuinely admired him.

I remember my mum saying in the 80s that she thought he was a revolting creep. I suppose I thought most people would have thought that but no - he hoodwinked the powerful.

The second episode was gruelling. What an evil bastard he was. I wished he'd suffered more before he died and I hope he was terrified of hell (apparently a catholic).

HemanOrSheRa · 11/04/2022 01:15

I've had to watch it in 30 min chunks. It really upset me and made me feel grubby. What the hell was everyone thinking? Absolute evil horror of a man.

Donotgogentle · 11/04/2022 01:28

I found it upsetting but respected the fact it wasn’t presented to be dramatic, it let the history emerge.

I was really impressed with and moved by the women who spoke up on film.

alittlefickle · 11/04/2022 07:23

I've just finished it ....
What I got from it was that he was DROPPING CLUES/HINTS for years and that to me is the most horrendous part.

He had such a hold over people due to his charity/volunteering work/influential friends, he was utterly untouchable. Even the letters weren't investigated. Unbelievable really.

I am stunned.
