Will there ever be a new political party / movement in the U.K.?

Breathing a sigh of relief here in France: Macron comfortably ahead of Le Pen in the first round.

What used to be the big parties. (Socialistes and Republicans) are nowhere: they are looking at 5% and 2% respectively. These are the parties that dominated French politics for decades. Macron just destroyed them when he emerged in 2017.

Will Labour and the Tories ever be diminished in the same way in the U.K.? I guess they have been in Scotland, with SNP wiping them out.

What would it take for a completely new political force to emerge in the UK? What would it look like?

I think had Brexit not been voted through and then come to pass, UKIP would have gained a much larger voter following.

For really different politics, I think there would have to be dissatisfaction over a couple of very key issues, fundamental to many people’s lives, which crossed party lines and traditional loyalties. For the most part, most people in the UK are pretty comfortable and therefore reasonably politically apathetic and disengaged. A lot of MN posters have suggested that energy prices and CoL rises generally will be the cause of voter unrest, though I’m personally not actually sure how prevalent this is as I don’t know anybody really worrying about CoL and if the bursting full restaurants and bars I’ve been in all weekend are anything to go by, nor are plenty of other people.
