Shock OMFG.
I have a photo but will save you the horror. I sent it to DH instead who has the good fortune to be away this weekend.

My cats were always bringing rats into our house. Some dead but the worst was when they were alive . I'd have to borrow my neighbours terrier to kill them. We've had birds , rats , mice, voles and even little baby bunnies all brought into our house.
Although one place I lived in Australia the resident cat used to bring in frogs, snakes , lizards and I lived in constant fear it would bring in a spider and I'd have to deal with it.

Seeingadistance · 10/04/2022 20:19

It looks like a very fit and healthy rat - apart from the being dead bit, of course.

Moody123 · 10/04/2022 20:20

That looks like a very well fed adult Rat, I would call a pest control person to look for a nest (where there is one, there is more) ... they will check access points, it's not cold outside so doubt they are taking shelter due to the weather, so must be after food ...
They are vile things, constantly wee , so you'll need to bleach the draws. Also they mark entry points for other rats to follow

viques · 10/04/2022 20:20

@scrivette, I have shared it, but I have also heard of someone else with the same issue, I am not alone.

Reminds me of one of my parenting fails. When DD was about 2 I had a stinking summer flu. I'd staggered out of bed to the loo and glanced out of the landing window to see a large deceased rat on the back lawn (courtesy of DCat, I presumed). Making a mental note to ask DH to sling it into the hedge, I went back to bed. I woke up a couple of hours later to hear DD in the garden, uttering the ominous words "ooh looky, cat toy!" I rushed to the window, only to observe her swinging aforesaid rat around her head by its tail.

@Princecharlesfirstwife

Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
It looks well nourished. Perhaps that photo next to it was responsible. It may have had a heart attack ?
pumpkinpie01 · 10/04/2022 20:26

That's a very fat rat 😫Years ago I had a mouse problem put various traps out and heard one go off in the kitchen cupboard. My ex was coming round to collect the kids and I asked him to get rid of it , he opened the cupboard and shouted it was a rat . I still don't know to this day if it was a mouse or rat as I didn't want to see it . But I never opened that cupboard ever again , whatever was in that cupboard I did without for the next 8 years until the kitchen was replaced . Cupboard by association, ridiculous I know .

Wafflesnsniffles · 10/04/2022 20:26

@RosesAndHellebores

FFS OP tied plastic bag and straight into corporation bin. Not your green bin.
Here (and in lots of other areas).......... a green wheelie bin IS exactly what you mean. ie a bin for general waste.

We had a dead rat at work in the wall before , the smell was awful
We didn't know what it was for ages and the smell kept getting worse and worse

autienotnaughty · 10/04/2022 20:34

I think I'd move house.

missymarrk · 10/04/2022 20:37

@Deadringer

My mum opened the airing cupboard one morning and found a live rat sitting looking at her. She knocked it into the laundry basket, popped the lid on, then brought it downstairs and killed it with a hammer. Tough lady my mum.
Is she Glaswegian?
SirVixofVixHall · 10/04/2022 20:40

Poor ratty.
V recently dead.

Luredbyapomegranate · 10/04/2022 20:44

We had a mice problem once and I came home to one stuck in a trap - back broken, legs still, front end scrabbling… 😱 I dispatched it with a wine glass.

The kitchen looked like a butchers the next morning. (I was pissed.)

Anyway OP I wouldn’t mess about with this alone. Call the rat man. That is one fat rat, and he may well have friends.

Luredbyapomegranate · 10/04/2022 20:45

Wine BOTTLE not glass.

That does make me me sound like a psycho..

PurpleToeNail · 10/04/2022 20:46

You might have rat pee all over your belongings, needs a good clean out, rats carry Weils disease

Unforgettablefire · 10/04/2022 20:48

How sweet! I had two boys and two girls, they’re amazing pets I’m thinking if getting a couple again.

boatyardblues · 10/04/2022 20:57

@viques 🙋‍♀️ Me! I want to hear the toaster mouse story. Please.

Oh my god it's fucking HUGE! I'm not squeamish but that would make me gag if I had to deal with it. I hope you've got some gin in to calm your nerves.
@viques 🙋‍♀️ Me! I want to hear the toaster mouse story. Please.
I was having one of those super efficient cleaning jags and picked up the toaster to empty out any crumbs and give it a good wipe over, a few crumbs came out but I could hear something shifting as I shook it. Held the toaster up and looked into the bread sections and a little face was looking back at me. Dead of course, presumably electrocuted , it was not particularly fresh looking, not like that rat, so I assume it had been in there for a while. What I don’t understand is why I didn’t smell it, I suppose the smell of toast overcame singed mouse. Tossed the toaster, dead mouse and all. It took me a while before I bought a new one, but I do love toast, and muffins, and crumpets……

Poor little fucker. If my mother found this in her drawer, she'd burn her house down.

Bytrgrewd · 10/04/2022 21:40

@ElenaSt

I just googled rat in drawer and found loads of cute pictures as apparently they love to best in them.

How sad that one died in your drawer.

Disappointed when I clicked on the photos to see the rat doesn’t actually have a little hat on
