Why do people just think it’s ok to hit a car and drive off!!

I’m on a rant…

I have a work car which I have had since I joined the company in October. Since I’ve had the bloody thing it’s now been hit 3 times!!!

Firstly hit in the back by a guy at traffic lights in Dec. The following day while waiting for the car to be recovered it got hit while parked on the road near my house and driver drove off, it had very substantial damage approx £3k to be fixed.

Today while parked near my house I went to use the car and the bloody wing mirror has been smashed (it’s still on the car thankfully) but all the casing has come off, found some of it about 5m down the road. Again no note left and they will have know they have done it as it’s properly smashed up. I’m absolutely dreading speaking to my manager about this on Monday I’m embarrassed that it has happened again. I don’t know what options I have we have a drive big enough for 1 car, which my non work car sits on (I can’t get rid of the lease as fairly new into it and it’s good for the weekend as bigger than the one I have for work) and my partner parks across the drive blocking the other in, again too new into a lease so can’t get out of it. I park the work car over the other side of the road and up on the pavement (it’s a wider pavement with a gravel part for parking so I’m not actually blocking the pavement) so it’s not even on the road and it’s still got hit. I’m so worried about Monday and having to explain it’s been hit again. I assume I’m going to have to go through the insurance again, in 4 months it’s been involved in two “hit and runs” I’m just so upset, I know it sounds stupid it’s a car but I’m just worried about telling them it’s happened again.
Assume it’s going to be affecting my personal insurance as well as will be 3 claims against it!

Have you got a dashcam? Might be worth investing in one if not.

Autumnwater · 09/04/2022 20:46

Nope no dash cam. Can you get ones that record while it’s parked?

I think either you or your DH should park one of the other cars there and keep your work car on or across your drive,.

Second hand car prices have gone through the roof lately. You might be able to sell one of the leased cars back to the dealership for more than the outstanding finance on it.

I have a Nextbase with parking mode, it records in the event of movement when I am parked up, I think lots of dashcam offer that option. Mine cost less than £200 for front and rear cameras.

The issue with that is then one of our cars may get hit too, and our cars are bigger and will be more on the road as won’t be fully able to get it off the road like I can with this one, genuinely do not have a tyre on the road so it’s ridiculous it got hit again. It is like a no win situation, I don’t know if it’s pure bad luck or what but everyone parks up on the pavement but just seems to be this one that gets hit! The road isn’t even that narrow(can get 2 cars past of you take it slow) it’s the main road through the estate so has a fair amount of traffic but it’s not a main road. I may have to look at a dash cam. I can’t cover it with CCTV as it’s across the road from the house so isn’t just recording our property. It’s just a bloody pain in the arse. I don’t mind paying out to get it fixed if I can this time I just feel really bad. I don’t like it as a car, I didn’t get to pick was one my predecessor had so I ended up with it, I’m not sure if I would be able to just have car allowance or not, it wasn’t offered when I started but mentioned I could have it when the lease ran out. The ideal situation would be me getting car allowance and using my car for work instead.

Just so frustrated that twice it has happened and caused visible damage and twice no details have been left! Thats what I’m so annoyed about I just know I couldn’t drive off if I had done that! This is todays damage no way could you not know you hit something. The second photo is the first time it got hit

Why do people just think it’s ok to hit a car and drive off!!
