Can anyone advise a clueless country bumpkin? Honestly travel cards/Oyster cards etc are another language to me 😬
Im arriving Monday with two friends and staying central for two nights before heading back to Gatwick, is there something that will also do the tube for the few days? Please help 😭

Probably just the train to London Bridge. Super easy! What part of London are you staying? The easiest thing is just to use your contactless cards to tap in and out at each station.

PartyPlan · 09/04/2022 18:59

The Thamelink trains go to London Bridge and St Pancras straight from Gatwick. Just use contactless or you can buy a ticket before you travel on the website.

You can use contactless to get the train from Gatwick and also on the tube. It automatically gives you the cheapest fare, unless you book train tickets in advance which may be slightly cheaper.

You can get a half hour journey time train to Victoria, Ldn Bridge and St Pancras. Where are you staying.

Danikm151 · 09/04/2022 19:11

Using contactless under tfl will cap at the day rate.
Or you could get the coach to drop you at Victoria?

We're staying at kings cross, by contactless do you mean just my normal debit/credit card? 🙈

Thameslink through to St Pancras. You can tap on/off at the barriers.

DragonMovie · 09/04/2022 20:43

Yes normal debit card. £9 each way to Victoria with a debit card or something like £41 return with a ticket! It’s outrageous. Just use your debit card for all travel and you’ll pay the cheapest rate.

Schoolchoicesucks · 09/04/2022 21:09

Yes normal debit/credit card. Thameslink will take you direct to KX.
Don't get the Gatwick Express as that will take you via Victoria and cost more and you'd have to change to tube to get to KX.

So just take the Thames link direct from Gatwick yo kings cross using my debit card? Sorry for needing a idiots guide! Can anyone tell me where the Thames link is located in Gatwick?

The Thameslink station for King's Cross is St Pancras. King's Cross station is on the other side of the road from St Pancras.
RampantIvy · 09/04/2022 22:20

Just check the departure boards for the platform for trains calling at St Pancras.

Yes. It is one of the trains which stops at the station by South terminal.
LIZS · 09/04/2022 22:28

Thameslinks from Gatwick are typically destined for Cambridge, Peterborough or Bedford.

The quickest route is the thameslink to bedford its about 5 stops to St Pancras, you can google Gatwick Airport Thameslink for the times, what hotel will you be in. ST Pancras is pretty much in Kings Cross. You just tap in your debit card.

Caminante · 10/04/2022 12:00

Follow the signs for trains at Gatwick, you will easily find your way to the station.
