Ok fairly lighthearted post to offset general doom and gloom! Richard Osman says he is leaving Pointless (Except for Celebrity editions) So he has such a good chemistry with AA.Says he is leaving due to other commitments .AA will have guest hosts .Wont be the same!

I fin d the banter boring and self indulgent. However, having read ROs book Im looking forward to more !

I've recently discovered the joy of The House of Games. RO is great on it, it's just cosy comforting TV and he talks directly to the viewer so you feel included, which must be lovely for people who are on their own. The guests are usually good fun, and the questions are engaging. I love it!

Interesting selection of comments here .I Havent been watching it for that long really maybe a year /18 months . Just like the banter between 2 real life friends ,rather than the sometimes slightly forced atmosphere of other shows .Like Eggheads too ,but JV seems to feign ignorance on some very basic questions sometimes, and seems to fawn over EH team to sort of big them up (They dont need it!)

As long as he carries on HoG. Essential viewing in our house ☺️

This is my fault.

It is my ambition to go on Pointless and a few days ago I hung a periodic table themed shower curtain in the bathroom, to learn it all. Obviously Pointless will now become a terrible show with awful guest presenters like Josh Widdecome and Carol Vordeman and Zander will abandon ship and it'll all be over.

We are getting a bit bored of Pointless now but absolutely love House of Games. Such great guests and DC love learning stuff like "where is interesting place you've heard of" and history dates. It's gentle fun, perfect for early evening relaxing.

Absolutely loathe Eggheads. Smug as fuck obnoxious experts, Jeremy smarming all over them AND they always get such easy questions! The contestants get much harder ones so often, it's so blatantly biased that we gave up. Urgh.

Ooooh, harsh and heartbreaking.

I was on Eggheads and they were allowed a 2nd go at a question by Jeremy Vine. We objected (off-camera) but the faceless, nameless producer wasn't having any of our lowly protestations.

We never really bounced back after that.

Hence my desire to do Pointless, because I think Richard would be very fair.

@balalake, I've just thought of an even worse guest presenter - Amanda Holden. Or Ant and Dec do the whole thing.

I've been on Eggheads, albeit as a single contestant and not in a team.

All the Eggheads - with the exception of Judith, who was a bit frosty - were absolutely lovely and about as far from smug as you can get. Self-effacing is more like it.

I'd've liked to go on Pointless in the early-ish days, I think. I like Richard Osman.

Can the other one not leave as well. The tree in my garden is less wooden than him.

Ours was Stevie Wonder songs. It's amazing how much you know falls out of your head when they're recording!

When playing along at home I always pick the politics category and one of the pointless answers is always 'Patricia Hewitt'.

I can imagine if it happened in real life I'd probably call her 'Patricia Hodge'.
