Any HCPs set up own business / sideline

TonkaTruckduck · 08/04/2022 19:59

I'm a registered HCP and I'm thinking of setting up a sideline, self employed related to health services.

Has anyone done this and successfully made a loving out of it, or conversely dipped their toe in and decided that employed life with the NHS is a better option?

I'm 99% sure I'm going to throw a thousand pounds at some training and equipment, try to launch the sideline whilst remaining employed for 6 months, then evaluate....but maybe I'm taking too simplistic a view?
Thanks for any replies/ opinions

I'm a community nurse and set up as a Foot Health Practitioner, it's great, is that along the lines of what you thought? My colleagues have done botox, ear syringing too and all made it worthwhile. I'm still keeping my job for now though x

@Popsicle27 thanks for that! It's the ear sectioning I'm thinking of trying.
Do you rent a room or go mobile? Is it complicated doing the tax return on top of being employed? I doubt I'll make anything in the first year after balancing off the outlay of start up costs.
I'm so disenchanted by the NHS, but wary of giving up the pension and years of service.
Did your employer stop you working in your patch, or wasn't it a bother?

What's ear sectioning?

TonkaTruckduck · 11/04/2022 19:21

@libertybear80 it's replaced ear syringing as the favoured option, microsuctioning wax from ears. The NHS no longer offer syringing so it's a growth area for private practitioners.
