Does anyone get SAD in reverse?

This sounds strange but I think every spring I have SAD rather than in the winter. It’s like my brain can’t cope with the longer days, I can’t sleep and feel anxious all the time. The past week has been awful, and I keep waking at 1.10 in the morning like clockwork and then can’t get back to sleep. I have constant brain fog.

I read that your brain may produce less melatonin in the spring which causes the sleep problems. I really like the winter months and feel cocooned by the dark evenings. Is anyone else like this?

For record, I’m currently taking amtriptyline for anxiety but it’s not helping with the insomnia.

The only thing I like about Summer is that I get to look forward to the autumn drawing in.

😂Me too!

I HATE the summer so when spring rolls around I start getting anxious because summer is right around the corner.

Also I think a lot of negative things happened to me in the spring so spring time stirs up sad memories and regrets for me.

At an outdoor lido today. Last time we came in August it was unbearably hot today it is bliss, warm with a lovely breeze.

Meteorological autumn! We made it 😂

I was thinking about this thread today!

glad july-august is done, it’s always the worst months for me.

roll on septemer and darker evenings

DeathBy1000PipeCleaners · 11/09/2022 12:33

We're nearly there, aren't we? Aren't we? Please say we are. It's still pretty warm in the south.

I never used to be a summer-hater, but here we are. I can't function in heat any more.

See also:

1: having children (the nameless pressure to take them out and Do Things on nice days);

2: neighbours who think a back garden in a built-up area is a nightclub. I hate them, I hate them, I hate them;

3: hay fever that really ramps up in August. Humidity makes me feel really ill and dizzy.

Come on autumn. You can do it. I believe in you :)

Clumsyandshy · 01/05/2023 08:46

Hope you're all ok ❤️

ssd · 01/05/2023 16:03

I hate the sun and it hates me.
Love the short, dark, comforting days.

ssd · 01/05/2023 16:06

Whats the melatonin thing

Theredjellybean · 01/05/2023 16:14

ooh i have found people similar to me
but i love hot hot sunny weather ...but i hate spring..the lighter evenings but its cold and often damp or raining so you cannot actually go out and do anything but you also cannot cosy up with curtains drawn and fire alight having wintery food and so it just feels miserable.

Correlation · 01/05/2023 16:23

Yes! Hate summer days or very sunny days in general. I have sensitive eyes and skin and like to dress in layers with big cardis and come home to a nice warm house on a cold day. I love when it starts getting dark at 4pm. I have never met anyone else who feels this way though.

Correlation · 01/05/2023 16:24

I also find people are more hedonistic and selfish in the summer! In winter or on “bad” weather days, people check that you’re not too cold or have an umbrella/coat. They invite you inside etc

lollipoprainbow · 01/05/2023 16:55

Happiest when it's raining ! It's too sunny today !!

Ponderingwindow · 01/05/2023 17:13

I can already feel my mood starting to shift. I’m needing to worry about sun protection just to go outside for a few minutes. Everyone else feels like the world is opening up and I just want to hide so my skin doesn’t hurt and I don’t get migraines from so much light.

I really want to move somewhere foggy year round.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 01/05/2023 18:23

Me too, feels like it's looming, doesn't it?

Correlation · 01/05/2023 19:11

Those of you with skin that burns easily in the sun and/or those who are not comfortable showing lots of skin for other reasons, how do you navigate dressing for summer days when you do have to go out? I really struggle and if I wear something I’m comfortable in I get lots of comments like “aren’t you too hot?” “Don’t you want to get a tan? You only live once!”

I cover up but with thin layers. I did however wear this bright pink shirt for work last year and felt too warm to put a vest underneath - what a mistake. I was a sweaty mess by the time I'd arrived a 40 minute walk later. I had to dry my shirt under the hand dryer 🤦‍♀️

Also find this good for my face ATM - https://www.lookfantastic.com/la-roche-posay-anthelios-anti-shine-sun-protection-invisible-spf50-face-mist-75ml/11393009.html

Ahhh it's so annoying isn't it? I wouldn't dream of asking someone if they're too warm in what they're wearing, literally none of my business.

I thought this was a new thread and I remembered this thread from last year.

I said this morning well that’s it now, misery for the next 4 months. Roll on the 1st of September when I can start to feel like myself again.

April has been mainly cold and wet here so I am still in winter mode with the wood burner and fairy lights on. It’s the really light nights and mornings that totally unnerve me. I just can’t settle when there is so much daylight.

aSofaNearYou · 01/05/2023 19:47

I'm not a fan of it getting dark late. Psychologically I associate dark with "evening time", which with young kids I look forward to, and then I feel like I've barely had any down time when it's just got dark and I've gone to bed. I like it to be dark by 8.

Correlation · 01/05/2023 19:50

@Clumsyandshy thank you!

ClaraBourne · 02/05/2023 01:17

I feel like this too !

Feeling obliged to be out and about enjoying the sun which I can't do unless I'm pasted in factor 50

Can't do a lazy morning in a darkish room as the sun comes in this side of the house. Feel obliged to get up and 'enjoy the weather.' 🙄

I hate the sun coming in through the windows I can see how much the house needs a dust and a clean and the sun hurts my eyes. I'd have every room shaded if I could but DP is the exact opposite and loves the sun.

I have to think what to wear rather than cover up with a coat and it's stressful, I love clothes but never look stylish in summer.

Rockbird · 02/05/2023 07:05

The only thing I'm looking forward to about the summer this year is the lack of mud. We got a dog in the autumn and I am so sick of mud. Other than that, the hot, bright weather can get stuffed. I hate it.

Belindabelle · 02/05/2023 10:39

This year my anxiety is high due to the extremely hot temperatures we had last year. I found that spell of weather just about unbearable.

Same here. I feel spring is speeding by too quickly. Dreading July/Aug/September.

PenelopeTitsDrop3121 · 02/05/2023 10:48

Me!!! I love it from September onwards. Up until new year. Absolutely hate summer and the heat and love it when the clocks go back.
